The pythons eating is usualy quick and easy, I dont see the sense in that esp since its a pita to clean up the tank after that. I had a few snappers back in the day and mostly fed them feeder fish and they actualy loved oscar pellets and turtle pellets, easier and a lot less messy.

Totally agree. And I at least have the decency to have the rat killed before I feed it to my Boa

I always live fed my Boa but that was pretty crucial... Boy I never knew just how hard it was to kill a rat until now!! Wow!

NOTE: I don't claim to be an expert but I always thought that Snapping turtles had softer, leathery shells... just wondering.:idk:

actually i did recently learn that actually feeding any pet live food isn't as good for them (insert nutritious) as feeding them the factory made food (well at least the good food). Its kind of one of those things that after you hear it you go hmm yeah that makes sense I should have already known that.

You would think live food would be better, not the other way around.

I agree but when you stop and think about it then you realize no way could it ever be better.

Live food has too many variables. Could be diseased or sick or whatever. Not sure what it has eaten or not eaten - could be malnourished or eating things it shouldn't. Live food typically has a bone structure so there is a chance your pet will choke on the bones, etc. injuring them. Lot of shit like that.

Manufactured food, on the other hand, is consistent - full of the nutrition your pet needs, etc. In fish it helps maintain and bring out brighter colors, etc. This is, of course, assuming you are buying quality food.

But this is a creature that has been perfected over millions of years. The snapping turtle is one effective killing and eating machine. I doubt it having the same kind of issues your yorkie or chihuahua would have that are more like rat scavengers than a proper carnivore like a snapping turtle.

Oh wait... what about the much touted raw meat diet everyone is on about here?

I have always been told that the factory made food was best because it has everything they need to be healthy...:idk::idk:
