I let a buddy ride mine today.
He said it was surprisingly agile, smooth, easy to ride and comfortable.

I think he also mentioned it was fast. lol

Scot 08-26-2009 08:22 PM

RC51 is terrifically over rated. I've ridden 2 (an 02 and an 04 NH) I thought the bike was very solid and not easily upset in turns but with only a lackluster motor and terrible tach. I bet I hit the rev limiter a dozen times before I was able to feel where the bike was RPM wise. The look and sound sells that bike. Everything else is a liability IMO.

The Hayabusa is a great bike but terribly expensive as a commuter. I had an 02 Hayabusa as my car for a year. 25,000 miles, 6 full sets of tires and a chain and sprockets later.....and that was enough of that.

Loads of fun though!

RACER X 08-27-2009 06:53 AM

OMG, and i think the builder of this bike (the shop where it's being sold) is 1 of the most reputable sportbike shops in town, and the it was the owners personnal bike

RACER X 08-27-2009 08:03 AM

yeah it;s a VERY sweet bike, but way over my head in terms of what i "need" which reflects in the price.........

all i want is a low priced one w/ reasonable miles, clean, and a nice exhaust......

Mr Lefty 08-27-2009 08:03 AM

sexy... but I notice the rear shock the first time... no need of three straight pics of it...

There's another $800-1000 you're gonna need to spend if the owner weighs significantly different than you, and sprung/valved that suspension accordingly.

That bike is set up right with about $3500 in suspension +another $2500 or so in well-picked goodies (Satos ain't cheap, but are pretty much the best sounding/power producing pipes you can put on them) - and you're gonna worry about maybe $1000-1500 more than a clean stock one? :wtfru:

.

at 1 point and time in my riding career i woulda cared. nowadays i don't. i do have racetech springs in the ft of the VFR.

but for commuting i'd get it set up as much as possible for my weight, and call it good.

the 'busa OTOH is already set up for my weight w/ ft springs oil and a rear spring.

Bear in mind, the stock RC is somewhat oversprung & harsh for a 'normal' weight rider, and the full ohlins setup absolutely transforms it into a much better feeling/handling bike - trust me.

How so? Seat too tall? High pegs?

I would think all sportbikes would be pretty similar in that regard except maybe in the plushness of the seat. :idk:

HokieDNA01 08-27-2009 12:53 PM

First off the "passenger seat" is nothing more than a glued on cushion to the cowl and is very hard. The rear of the bike is also very high off the ground so getting on it with leathers took some contortion efforts (but I'm short). The passenger pegs are high up and are uncomfortable (got a few charley horses). The reach to the gas tank (where I like to place my hands) was long so I was constantly streched to hold on and last but not least, the passenger sits so high up you can see right over the drivers head and you are in a ton of wind blast from the wind shield. It was fun for about 15 mins of twisties....then I wanted off.

wildchild 08-27-2009 01:01 PM

for a 20 mile round trip commute and nothing much else I would jump all over the RC51. I think the Busa would be great for long ribbons of highway or more comfortable two up trips but who can argue with the look and sound of the RC?

Don't get full coverage then. Waste of money on a used bike anyway, IMO. I pay only like $200 a year with McGraw.

For my little ninja 250 geico wanted $1500/year (the bike brand new was $3000), progressive wanted $700 and finally State Farm wanted $240 full coverage. My GSXr 750 with full coverage is $425/year.

I don't think that you can get cheaper motorcycle insurance, bro. I could actually save some money if I moved my car to Nationwide but I like having both in the same company. I do my renter's with them too.

marko138 08-28-2009 11:51 AM

I have Nationwide for my homeowners and my and my wifes cars. They suck as far as I'm concerned. I should switch...but I'm too lazy. They were fucked on MC insurance...couldn't even come close to any other company...and that was with the multi policy discount.

See my experience with them seems better. They were a he11 of a lot cheaper than Geico or Progressive.

Two other companies...Amica and Erie Insurance were cheaper on everything else BUT not the bikes.

I checked a few more that were about the same or higher that would cover the bikes....but it wasn't worth moving since I've been with them for years and have a ton of $hit to move so it wasn't worth it.

I did not get a quote from State Farm for some reason but looks like I should have.

State Farm won't insure bikes unless you've got a car on the policy...which is why I'm not with them. But I should switch over. Nationwide was almost 3x as high on MC insurance for me. And like I said, that was with a long time customer with multi-policy. I told them to get bent.

good choice

RACER X 08-28-2009 01:58 PM

got it down to $802/yr for F/C thru state farm

adding uninsured/underinsured is an extra $140 yr, main thing is it would bring down my deduc from $1000 to 250 if i were hit by an unins/underins driver and it was their fault.

not gettin that.

you can feel the rumble... it takes a soulless zombie not to love the rc....

and the rc engine is so detuned you need to throw a pc on it with a good map, a good exhaust and perform the free mods to make it even better

RACER X 08-28-2009 03:08 PM

if anybody knows Castertroys ph #, tell him to drop me his phone # or check his facebook.

i'll be in greensboro to P/U the bike 9/11

dReWpY 08-28-2009 03:14 PM

ok, if its the rc your looking at, look up the flapper mod and perform it before you even ride the bike... its that important!

An obviously, they know better what a new rider needs, as they arent biased like us guys who's been doing it for years?

But then again, who am I lying to, my fist bike was an rc51 :lol

Homeslice 09-08-2009 03:24 PM

Considering how big that nose is, you certainly hope there'd be a good instrument panel there
