In seriousness though, I've had 3 go RROD on me. They took care of all of them, but it seems like the last 360 I got was different and it has been going strong for a quite a while now. Maybe they will send you a good one this time.

When we do the exchance, we do it at the store, we never ship to Microsoft.
and we have gotten the regular xbox a few times, and the elite one aswell, and same shit....

have they been able to pin point the reason for this? overheating? overloading? cheap manufacturing?

There's a website that tells you what to look for. There are 3 "different" consoles made to run off of different power supplies. The newest one is obviously the best. BUT, I don't remember the website..
