F/S 1999 Suzuki SV-650S $1999

I'm trying to gauge interest in this and figure out what it's worth...

Imported from Canada in 1999, this is the fared model not the nekkid U.S. model available that year. I took it out of the crate and assembled it personally, I'm the only owner. Speedometer is in km/h reading 27000km, or about 17K miles. Nearly all stock except for a re-jetted carb in prep for a can that never came. No wrecks.

What'cha think it's worth?

the chi 07-13-2009 06:00 PM

Shan? Is that really you?

In any case, we have plenty of canadians that should be able to assist!

ShanMan14 07-13-2009 06:55 PM

It's me, yup! :D This bike is in the U.S. but I suppose I'd sell it to anyone in N America. I'm just wondering if it's worth it or not. I can tell you this, it's rare in the respect that AFAIK I have the only red 1999 S model in the U.S. that still has km/h.

I like your avatar, I had forgotten that you used that pic. Anyway, I'll look into it. Good to hear from you btw.

$2500

Amber Lamps 07-14-2009 11:14 AM

I honestly don't think you'll get more than a couple grand, maybe $2500. Sorry. I don't know what kind of money you're after but you have nothing to lose posting it on Craig's List.:idk: I'd almost buy it for fun, in fact we just got a learner bike for my gf. How much are you trying to get?

Possibly, but nothing in the immediate future.

KBB: $2860

NADA: $2100

WTF?!

Rider 07-14-2009 11:22 AM

Eric, welcome back man. Tmall who lives in Canada might be looking for a bike like this.

Yea and that's "high retail" I'd imagine... Um wasn't that bike under $5,000 new Shan? I mean, how much do you think a 10 year old bike that sold for 5k new should be worth? :idk:

Precisely the purpose of this thread. NADA, KBB, Cycletrader and Craigslist are all over the place.

$2500 seems reasonable to me. Maybe $3000 since the bikes is famous because of its owner. :D

BTW, the jumblies smilie is very distracting, but in a good way.

A guy I know just bought an '02 for $2,000 but I'm sure it wasn't in the same pristine condition yours is...

pretty good

good luck with that, I just sold my RR and it was a pain in the butt. Market is not in good shape right now.

marko138 07-14-2009 11:42 AM

I sold my 15 year old GSXR for 2500, you ought to be able to get that out of the SV.

the chi 07-14-2009 11:44 AM

 Its a canadian bike guys, not that he's selling it to a canadian or in canadia...

I'll do some diggin and see if I can find anything.

Yea but you sold before the "market crash" bro. It's ugly out there. If my gf hadn't been in such a hurry to get her bike, I would have held out for a few weeks before buying. We still got an okay deal but some of the other Ninja 250s I was looking at have come way down in just the two weeks since we got hers.

You've got a point.

ShanMan14 07-14-2009 11:53 AM

Yeah, market isn't great but this has to be one of the better SV's out there. 10 years old and 17K miles, never wrecked. It's a good track bike, no mods except for the rejet.

I just created an account at svrider and they have a min post count, you know... the same one I implemented to stop spammers. Anyway, I emailed the admin asking if he could remove those restrictions for me providing evidence of my import saga back to 1999 etc. I was attempting to prove I wasn't a spammer.

Cool thing was, he did. Uncool, it looks like VS bought them too and the way he worded his email was somewhat arrogant (at least that was my interpretation). I won't deal with them, so they're off the table.

Whatever...

What really pissed me off is even before VS they had paid off topic forums. You couldnt talk off topic without paying them.

ShanMan14 07-28-2009 09:59 AM

Wow, getting LOTS of people interested in the bike but there seems to be a lot of indecision. Mostly younger folks that want it but don't have any $$. Why would you waste your and my time if you have only $1000 for a bike that is listed for $3K? :td:

Because people suck.

ShanMan14 07-29-2009 10:06 AM

Ok, so assuming that someone actually comes to look at it... how are you supposed to handle a "test ride?" My inclination is to say no, start it up, sit on it, I'll get the industrial floor fan to blow your hair but you're not taking the bike and wrecking it.

Is that wrong?

marko138 07-29-2009 10:15 AM

I'm always weary of test rides. I've got a no ride policy. Some guys will allow rides if the potential buyer has CASH in hand. But I wouldn't. Maybe even take it for a spin up and down the road for him. But I personally wouldnt let someone ride it.

Money in hand, if they wreck it/they own it. Only way I would do that. Even then, I would say sign BoS first.

Yep that's the way to do it. You also weed out the tire kickers who aren't really buying.

I tell them on the phone or e-mail when setting up the meet:

A. No mc endorsement on their dl, i dont care how many friend's bikes they've ridden...no test ride.
B. No dl...no test ride. You "left it at home"? Too bad.
C. Full price cash in my hand or no test ride. Dl and keys to their car in my hand or no test ride.
D. I don't take cashiers checks...cash only. Yes, people do forge cashiers checks try to pass stolen traveller's checks and if it's after hours (95% of the time)i have no way to verify the check's validity...cash is not only king, it's the only way i do business.
F. Like leon, i always have a "contingency plan" when meeting strangers.

You don't like my rules, too bad. Haven't lost a bike yet. Some sellers balk.....

I sold new cars for a while in my misspeant youth; during that time, one of the other salesman was carjacked in broad daylight by a "customer" who pointed a gun at his face during the testride and told him to get out; the "customer" then used the $30,000 conversion van to rob a bank....

I was giving a testride to another guy, who suddenly floored it; we're screaming down the highway at 100+, me screaming at the dude...him ignoring me till i hit him in the head a half dozen times and turned the ignition off.. I literally had to beat the crap out him to get him out of the car, and he called the cops on me by the time i got back to the dealership.......

Exactly, that's why I put it on C/L stating "make me an offer" as in there is no price.

SVrider... yeah. I tried but I had to open a new account and they don't allow postings to classifieds unless you have 50 posts. That site was bought by VS and... well, you know.

RACER X 09-30-2009 08:51 AM

you could ask a low price and stick to it, although it's a nice bike. it's also nearly 10 yrs old.

I could try putting it on on SVrider for ya. I think I still have an account under volengineer and so VS probably won't know it's me. LOL

marko138 09-30-2009 02:19 PM

The "make me and offer" might throw people off too. Personally, I'd probably pass on an ad like that. Too many variables if there's no price listed. Just my opinion.

Well chyt, I've done it both ways. I listed it for $3K expecting maybe $2500 based on input here, so that's not working. Now what? $2K, $1K? :whosr:

If you need a tax write off, donate the bike and take the full retail value as a tax deduction.

Think again. As long as he isn't claiming more than "fair market value", the motorcycle isn't in need of any repairs and, the charitable amount does not exceed 50% of his adjusted income, then he can deduct the motorcycle value from his taxes. Sounds like you may need a new tax accountant, because you are being fed wrong information.

I did try SVrider and since my account was sold old it didn't exist anymore. I registered a new one and tried to post it FS and was told newbs can't do that, with attitude from the guy. I explained the situation, then he allowed me to do it as if he was doing me a big favor, "I should know better" and what not. So I told him, essentially, to GFY and remove my account.

:D

So no, it's not up there. ;)

Keep forgetting to mention, I have a Dowco cover for it, too. It's of no use once the bike is gone. It cost me $100 new, if I remember correctly, when I bought it.
