Alternative media and crowd funding

I realize that the site doesn't have the throughput that it used to, but what the hell ;) If you aren't interested yourself but think that some of your friends might be, please share this stuff on the Twitters and Facebooks, and stuff.

There's a bunch of stuff either going on right now, on crowd funding sites, or that soon will be going live. I thought some of it might be interesting to folks around here.

The one I'm most pulling for is "Natural 20" which is a sequel to last year's "Natural 1". It's being produced by a guy named Thomas Gofton in Guelph, Ontario, and if funded will also involve people from Seattle and Australia. I met Tom and Monica at a small con, last year, and had the better part of an hour talking production with Tom before the Canadian premier of "Natural 1". This one is being written by Andy Dopieralski of Two Bards Productions; a frequent colaborator with Zombie Orpheus Entertainment and Dead Gentlemen Productions.

Here is the Kickstarter page:

Here is a link to the previous series, "Natural 1":

And, because I know what sells, here is a link to Monika Zelak's Facebook page ;) :

Zombie Orpheus Entertainment and Dead Gentlemen Productions will soon be releasing a rather ambitious schedule of projects they'll be trying to fund. One of them, "The Gamers: The Series", goes back to the story of one of their very early movies, to continue the story. They give a little information, on their Patreon page, about what to expect.

Mythica is a movie series, that features our favourite former Hercules Kevin Sorbo in cameo appearances, as a sort of Dumbledor character. Quite frankly I really don't care if I spelt "Dumbledor" correctly ;) The second in the series is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter and the first was pretty good.

And just because I like these guys, Two Bards Productions Patreon page. Funny podcasts on most Sunday nights. They have modest aspirations, when it comes to funding ;)

Man, but those Youtube links screw with the page formatting, don't they?

Well "Natural 20" has been deferred to late July or August, but Zombie Orpheus Entertainment has launched their "pilot season" Kickstarter campaign. They're funding 4 pilots and looking for which ones people want to actually see get made. I know that I definitely want to see "The Gamers: The Series" and "Demon Hunters: Red Tape" get made as ongoing projects, but I'll have to wait until I see "Brass" and "The Mirror Game" pilots before I'll know about them. Hell, I've got the theme from the Original Demon Hunters movie, from 1998, in my music rotation; "High Road" by Sean Bendickson and the Bendickson Boys.

... however Zombie Orpheus Entertainment has started their "pilot season" Kickstarter. "The Mirror Game" sounds pretty intersting; "The Goonies" meets "Call of Cthulhu."

I'm going to crowd fund my bills.

Super Troopers 2 is coming out since they met their goal on the crowd fund.

The multi-million dollar crowd funding campaigns always make me scratch my head, because I haven't seen one yet that couldn't have been funded through conventional means. I have friends who use crowd funding legitimately and shrug their shoulders at that, but it does annoy me.

In case anyone cares (or is even here), the kickstarters for a couple of things have dropped.

The first is season 3 of "JourneyQuest", by Zombie Orpheus Entertainment and Dead Gentlemen Productions. I think this series is some of their best work to date.

The second is "Mythica 4: The Iron Crown", which features Kevin Sorbo, aka Hercules.

There's a third one, "Lost Hope", that's an animated comedy series about the end of the world and a space ark:

It's the last 60 hours of the JourneyQuest season 3 Kickstarter and they've got a long way to go.

30 hours and $108K to go in the JourneyQuest Kickstarter.

Turbo Ghost 02-22-2016 10:56 AM

That's a tough hurdle to get over in the amount of time left!

Looks like the proof of concept campaign has gone well for Dragon's Lair! I hope it does well!

They actually made it :)

The last 24 hours were nerve wracking and I doubt that any of them got any sleep. They hit $420K in the last 4 hours and then the total went up and down, until the finish. The final total was $425,474.

Good on the "Dragon's Lair" folks for not using the 'flexible funding' option. That always seems like a con to me.

Turbo Ghost 02-24-2016 07:41 PM

Glad to see some success out there!

Papa_Complex 03-22-2016 07:16 AM

Well now that JourneyQuest season 3 has been funded I'll be off to Seattle, in April, to attend the wrap party after principle shooting is complete :D

Turbo Ghost 03-24-2016 06:28 AM

Sweet! Lots-o-pics!

Papa_Complex 03-24-2016 06:48 AM

I'll try, but I'll likely be geeking out at actually meeting these people I've been corresponding with for months, face to face ;)

Turbo Ghost 03-27-2016 08:17 PM

I know the feeling! I rarely get pics from comic-cons. I'm too busy looking at everything to take pics. Of course, I also don't get much of a chance with everyone taking MY picture!

Well that's an easy one; get everyone who takes a pic with you to post it on Facebook, then link you ;)

When I get into a place with people I really want to talk to, I tend to forget about things like taking pictures. Maybe that's why I do motorsports; I'm in the middle of a field, without anyone to talk to while shooting.

Papa_Complex 04-22-2016 07:31 PM

Finally got out to the set of JourneyQuest season 3, last weekend.

After going to the shoot, I went to the wrap party.

And got to be on a podcast. (I guess I'm over my stage fright)

Now I'm on my way home tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

Steve Wolbrecht ;)

Scott C Brown to the right of him.

(Can't believe that I spelt Steve's name right on the first try.)

If anyone feels like taking a poke at fundamentalism, the ZOE folk have just a few days left in their campaign for "Attacking the Darkness." They filmed this mockumentary while simultaneously making "Dark Dungeons"; the movie of a Jack Chick Fundamentalist Christian comic strip that they helped produce.

Papa_Complex 06-28-2016 01:36 PM

"Attacking the Darkness" is free for viewing until July 1st, when the Kickstarter ends:

Papa_Complex 07-08-2016 07:37 AM

Now Dead Gentlemen Productions/Zombie Orpheus Entertainment wants to revive their 2002 movie "The Gamers" as a web show with full length 45 minute episodes. They're running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the first episode and to try to drum up some fan support through Patreon.
