But I though machine guns were bad and had no usefull place in society? How could this be? What about the intruder, doesnt he have rights too? Whos gonna stand and defend his right to not get shot in both legs and his face?

(story would have been better if it was the sister who shot" while defending the older brother)

This same thing happened to a buddy of mine. Except he didnt know the guy was in the house until he walked in on him stealing stuff. My buddy rushed the guy and the guy shot him in the arm and my friend beat the snot out of him then called the police. I think we had like 6 parties that week for him lol.

Automatic I can excuse as it needs a prefix to describe which action it is and by itself describes semi-auto. Id certaintly hope when I talk about my autovolver no one thinks its full auto :lol:

I agree. They should probably have a firearms course in the journalism schools since half of their stories involve them.

You put 80 year old Grandma with a Katana vs experienced thug (or Ninja) who uses a sword daily you don't have a fair fight. Grandma is gonna get it.

I don't think a class 3 is all that expensive to get (less than $500 if I remember correctly), it just takes a long ass time, if your local law enforcement allows it at all. The real expense comes in purchasing a class 3 weapon not limited to law enforcement only. I like WWII era weapons. I'd love to get a full auto Thompson, but not at $15,000 or more. Same goes for a Browning Automatic Rifle, but not for $20k+.

Ever fired a gun in a kill-or-be-killed situation? 3 hits for 10 shots is pretty average, even for a trained shooter.

That kid had access to the rifle and knew how to operate it. I'm sure dad has taken him shooting a time or two.

I know, man. Just trying to be funny. I imagine he didn't have a shit ton of time to act, aim, etc. He was probably just pointing the gun toward the guy and pulling the trigger. The kid probably never even put the gun up to his shoulder inside the close quarters of the home. Those AR-15's barely even kick at all when firing one round at a time, so no real need to throw it up to the shoulder and take aim at center mass in such close quarters.

I think we should have a seperate sub-forum for people using guns/weapons in self defense becuase they make me feel warm and cozy. I would feel so much better if I woke up to another story of some theif/rapist/etc getting killed or shot.

In most states if you are willing to spend the money the average citizen can have an M16 or a AR15 with an Auto Sear.
Although this seems more likely to be as noted Simple Ignorance on the part of Journalist.

I was speaking in generals. I guess I could have said it leveled the playing field some.

Though here in Atlanta an 86year old grandma managed to pop an Atlanta PD in the arm with a 44 before 3 of them were able to shoot her.
