Imagine that

GM to halt Chevy Volt production, temporarily lay off 1,300 workers due to low demand

This is a surprise? I mean who really wants a $50k car that while it uses less gas costs you more overall vs a comparable gas powered car. I mean really? It will take over a decade to see any savings.

From what I have read, the White has cut a deal with the Chinese for GM to provide the technology and the cars will be built in China to be sold here

God I hope so

That's the problem with these cars. I like the Volt, it's a nice lookin car and is nice in side. However, it's a nice maybe $30k car. Not $45k!!

The $7500 you claim on your taxes is BS. If the govt wants to back up hybrid cars, they need to give that money straight to the manufacture so I can buy the car for cheaper.

Until these cars cost the same to buy as a normal car, they will always sell poorly! Period!

It's a conspiracy! They just want us to spend more on gas!

I want someone to explain why a '88 Honda CRX got 50 mpg but the best cars these days only get 40 mpg or so...:idk: heck, a Geo Metro also did very well didn't it?

Safety and environmental shit. The CRX was just under 2000 lbs and didnt have to meet stringent zero emmissions rules. The honda fit which is pretty much just a modern hatchback version of the CRX weights 2500lbs and gets real world MPG somewhere between 34 and 39 mpg. Thats on a 30 year younger design

If I remember correctly, the CRX that got 50mpg was painfully slow and a borderline shitbox.
Sure it was light, but I'd like to make it up a hill and have AC.

yep I had a Geo Metro for awhile. Thing was unbelieveable for fuel economy. easily 50 or better on highway. I took it up north and hit a log that had been left on the highway by a log truck. at night no sight of it until it was too late. car went airborne off the log. hood came up smashed the windshield, front stub was bent, radiator was holed. Drove it to my cousins house. Pulled the front stub out with a chain and tree. (backed the car up while chained to tree). Had a shop redo the rad, and tied the hood down. when I got home I put in a new windshield and drove that car for more then a year longer.

Honestly it got better fuel mileage then my bike at the time. It would bog down severely with more then 2 adults though.

Build a car that no one wants and make it stupid expensive. Way to go GM

They were burning lean mixtures. (Less fuel.)

That causes pollution though. Now we burn more fuel to cut it down. Go figure.

That's what the Big Three were doing when they were building mega SUVs, when gas hit record highs. At least they were trying, with the Volt.
