Possible ride to centrailia this weekend?

I'm considering trying to find Centralia pa this weekend, is anyone interested in a trip?

It is about a 130 mile route on main highways according to google maps, I would set the GPS to avoid highways, or find some neato place to stop for food along the way, maybe make it a 200 mile each way trip.

Anyone interested?

I really wanna go up there. But I can't do this weekend. I'm booked fucking solid. If you end up doing another weekend I might be able to meet you.

Dave 09-02-2009 10:37 PM

derf 09-02-2009 10:42 PM

I was thinking, leaving sunday morning maybe 10ish, stop for lunch on the way, arrive around 2 or 3, then wak around for a while take some pictures, then turn around and come back home a different direction.

Dave 09-02-2009 10:55 PM

anyway to do saturday? TL is working sunday

derf 09-02-2009 11:12 PM

Yeh, saturday is doable, I just need to check to make sure that I have a sitter for the kiddies

Gas Man 09-03-2009 01:47 AM

Shit I did this amount of milage tonight for a bike night... if I was around I would do it in a heartbeat.

marko138 09-03-2009 07:39 AM

You guys should Run down 125 on the way back...it's sorta outta the way...but it would be well worth it. You can run straight out 61 to Shamokin and go South on 125 from there.

marko138 09-08-2009 03:47 PM

Did you dudes end up doing this or what?

derf 09-08-2009 05:24 PM

No, dave chickened out, and I did some foundation work under my porch so it didn't topple over

Yes it is level, just a bad angle on the picture, and it goes down 4 courses bellow ground level.

marko138 09-08-2009 10:37 PM

You trying to make this run anytime soon?

derf 09-08-2009 11:10 PM

Yeh, but tis the season for kiddie activities, saturdays for the next 3 months are gonna be soccer games, along with monday and thursday nights. add to that the question of if I will have a liscense after thursday

marko138 09-09-2009 08:04 AM

Let me know next time you're thinking about it.

Phenix_Rider 09-09-2009 05:27 PM

I plan to do this ride... next season. After the NE Rally, I think I'm done for long rides this year.

Gas Man 09-10-2009 10:12 PM

It will be my last ride.

I have 3k more to do as part of my goal.

I figure 1.5k just in this trip alone, then the other 1.5k between now and t-day or so.

You know what, we could easily run up to Centralia when you're here. Take 125 up that way...one of the badest roads in PA.

Google maps says... 101 miles from Gettysburg to Centralia on the interstate. Figure what? 2.5-3 hours on back roads? Sounds like a good ride for one day of the rally. There is absolutely nothing in the town though- no fuel, no water, no food.

If you guys wanna do it for the Rally, awesome. There are some phenomenal roads up in the coal region. Gas is coming a few days early and we are doing some things...but if we wanna plan on this for the Rally we could hold off on running it.

Well, there's the section of 61 or 64 or whatever route that was that is caved in and has smoke coming up outta the road. We went right by it and didn't know it. Essentially its the same shit that we saw.

My buddy tells me it's cool to go up in winter when snows on the ground and you can see where the hot spots are.

tommymac 11-18-2009 04:25 PM

The ground/rocks were prety warm/hot by a few of those spots that I found and we took pics of.
