Poll For EVERYONE

Discussions here and elsewhere got me wondering. How many people on here have done a trackday? So I want to know, it's a simple poll. And I don't want options like "I want to but don't have the time/money/trackbike/etc" not because I don't appreciate the fact that there are people who can't (for many different reasons), but because I just want a breakdown of who has and who hasn't.

No need to respond, but if you want to :pwhore2: go ahead.

Mrs. Colleen 04-19-2008 08:52 PM

:pwhore2: Not yet. :pwhore2:

WARputer 04-19-2008 08:56 PM

Not yet and surely never will. I honestly have no desire to.

Mr Lefty 04-19-2008 08:56 PM

haven't had the chance... I will when I get to CO.

had they had one in AK I would have... well.. actually even if they had one... they probably wouldn't have been open during the time that I was able to ride

really? I'd at least hit it up just to see... actually that's what I'm doing... I think sport touring is more my thing... but I'm curious as to what the track will be like

Phenix_Rider 04-19-2008 09:40 PM

How about... not yet. I signed up for the NESBA Intro deal at Beaverun. Two weeks!!

Want to this summer, and have a friend that is "encouraging" me.
Just gotta figure out wich one will work for us.

JoJoYZF 04-20-2008 08:51 PM

No I havent. I know I wont be this season but Im shooting for next season hopefully.

You're more likely to crash and do major damage on the street. Most interesting roads have guardrails and telephone poles and short runoff areas, then add in oil, antifreeze, gravel, etc...

Katherine 04-21-2008 12:54 AM

They're addictive. Once you start, you want to do more and more. I HIGHLY suggest one for every rider. It makes you a much better street rider!

Not yet.

LaFemmes 04-21-2008 09:01 AM

Nope never have.

Good luck. NESBA is not the best for first-timers. Just have fun. If you want more instruction and one-on-one teaching, go with STT

So I've heard. We'll see how the free intro goes.:dthumb: Main reason I'm doing this specific date is that a lot of guys from my area are going.

Heck yeah. Did my third one this Sunday at Jennings GP with Rae. Even tried different tires on the Aprilia (Pirelli Diablo Corsa III)

Can't wait for the July trip to Barber :)

Mudpuppy 04-21-2008 11:03 PM

10 and counting for me:

Grattan
Gingerman
Mid-Ohio

7 of the 10 were Grattan.. now its resurfaced going to try and get back there a few times this year.. probably hit Gingerman once, Putnam if they have cheap days and thinking about one more like Autobahn or Black Hawk Farms or Beaverun.. if things go right maybe a spring 09 one at Barber... i am interested in trying alot of different tracks..

Did the March 29th Team Chicago at Grattan this year - got up in the morning it was a balmy 18 degrees.. they had to literally chip ice out of turn 1 before session 1.. last session of the day it warmed up to 37 degrees.. it was an ugly trackday because you couldn't go that fast and just made you want a trackday even more like a crackrock to a crackhead who hadn't smoked in 5 days..

ceo012384 04-23-2008 01:31 AM

Been riding less than a year. Done three trackdays. Doing two more a week from now.

I actually just realized that the two trackdays I'm doing this coming week are on the 1 year anniversary of when I took my MSF class, which was the first time I ever sat on a motorcycle. Crazy how things have changed since then.

Yeah, there may be a small difference. From closed parking lot range to flying around tracks.

felyn3 04-24-2008 08:18 PM

I've done 3 at Pocono.

Mudpuppy 04-24-2008 10:30 PM

how is pocono? is part of the track through the tunnel? then i assume some kind of road course in the infield?

PhiSig1071 04-24-2008 10:47 PM

OK, I'm bored so I'll post up my resume.

Riding since I was a kid, mostly ATV's and some dirtbikes. Got licensed (MSF Course) in '01. Riding street since then. I did my first trackday in Oct, '06 at JGP. I earned my AHRMA race license in March of '07 (never recieved it, I don't have a bike that I can run in AHRMA, so I didn't bother), I became an MSF ridercoach in early September '07. I would estimate I have done about 20 trackdays give or take, all at Jennings GP (personal best, 1:29.8) and Barber Motorsports Park (1:55.9). I am leaving tomorrow to do a trackday at Barber on Saturday.

z06boy 04-25-2008 09:07 AM

I voted no because I haven't done a trackday on a bike.

I've done several in cages though.

That is impressive.. I started riding as a kid as well on dirtbikes.. probably around 8 years old.. rode only dirt bikes exclusively until 1998.. that was when I got my Yamaha XT600 dual sport and actually figured out I was doing more street riding than dirt riding because good dirt spots were way too far away.. sold my truck because it was a money pit.. then it became really hard to ride dirt.. so I bought a Katana in 2001 and loved it.. sold it 6 months later and bought my 2000 Yamaha R6.. went to the track for the first time in 2005.. got my WERA racing license but never did anything with it.. renewed it in 2006, 2007 it snowed and 2008 i got it again.. but I have no money, time and "permission" (Mrs. MP says trackdays ok racing nfg) to race.. so i just do trackdays..

No, you only go through the tunnel to get into the infield. There are actually 2 road courses at Pocono that are inside the tri-oval. I've only done the "east" course. Part of it goes down the backstretch that the NASCAR stock cars run on. I haven't ridden any other tracks to compare, but Pocono is flat, pretty narrow, many areas of poor pavement, and no reference points. I can't complain about the fact that it's only 40 minutes away, though!

Quick281 04-26-2008 12:52 AM

I voted no, but since everyone is discussing I will as well.

I have been riding for about 3 months and I will probably be off traveling for 5 or 6 months while the bike is put in storage. When I get home and settle in a post graduate job I will be looking to track the bike.

My experience with Mustangs was that running around the street is fun, but going to something a simple as a drag strip was more fun just because you can challenge yourself against the clock. Perfecting the launch, the suspension and the driving in a 1/4 mile can be tough work.

The car isn't setup for auto x, but I always thought it would be fun. Once I have decent cash flow I expect to be track whoring and learning how to push myself and the machine a bit faster each time.

i see.. going through the tunnel would be sweet.. flat though eh? gingerman is like that - lots of tight turns but flat as shit.. i like grattan better with the elevation changes..

What are these "elevation changes" you speak of? Is the whole world not as flat a Florida??

 I'd kill to get some time on an elevated track, heard its badass...

Come up to Grattan in Michigan - Road & Track and Motortrend do testing there - very technical track with alot of elevation changes.. In July there is a Susan B. Komen Trackday for $100.. Mid-Ohio is another good one for elevation changes..

felyn3 04-26-2008 01:02 PM

Plus, Pocono has mainly left-hand turns. I came home from my last track day with no chicken strips on the left side of the tire, and the nubblies were still on the right side!

dReWpY 04-26-2008 01:02 PM

mid ohio was good but expensive, the elevation changes make for some interesting off camber turns, watched a guy punt his bike off the track on one, more like a launch actually

Loved it!
Made me realize:
1. What my Buell is capable of (way more than me)
2. Above all, trust your tires, they will stick
3. When in doubt, lean more.
4. ND sucks with it's straight flat roads.

Also loved the fact that I rode a track that many racers are scared of.

Really wanted to make it back for the opening of the short course, but sadly had to work.
At least I made it to run the full track while I could!

I have been licensed for eight, but riding for a lot more than that, hell I have been working as a Ridercoach for a year and a half!

Yeah bro, good luck! I got approved for an AHRMA license through an STT racer-prep course because they have a supermoto class, but my bike's really not competative, so I never got it. Plus I can't afford tires/entry fees/etc.

Hmm, the percentage of track day people went up, that's kinda odd.

Papa_Complex 11-10-2008 11:59 AM

I've done 8 track schools at a local track (FAST Riding School) and I don't know how many track days. Not as many as I'd like, certainly. My old beater FZR400 has been sitting all season because I've been spending too much time shooting, not enough riding.

If you were a little further north, I would suggest that you check out FAST. Not only do they provide the bike, gear, and ex-pro racer instruction (I've had more than a few from NY, NC, and SC in my classes), but they occasionally run an advanced riding school for cruisers.

I have done a lot of trackdays, too many to count. Started club racing in 2000 and became an instructor for Ride Smart for about two-three years. I got out of racing so that my son can start racing... still go to trackdays though, but I don't ride... I'm more of a off track private instructor/mechanic/cook and driver for him.

I did borrow a bike a few months ago and did some riding with Elite Trackdays... Damn I miss being on the track.

I raced for 5 years so most of my track days were sanctioned, but I did one "Club" track day after the race season ended.
That was a smart move as it turned out. I had to build another race bike after that day, in the 8 weeks before the next season started. I haven't been on a track in 10 years but made the mistake of going to watch and help a buddy a few times in the past year. Sort of started a low grade itch...

I have done a few. BIR, VIR, Pahrump Raceway, and our technical college has a driving course that I have done a few advance rider sessions, not really a track day but kind of. :)

I have only had my falco out once and it was this past summer. Otherwise, I had an old beat up FZR that was a blast on the track. Now with the Falco, I hate to even risk dumping her...

Maybe I will get another track bike someday... :idk I would love to do more.

I've done a couple, loved it, wish I could do more but I am bit uptight because I was a newb. I did OK, though.

You could switch my vote to a yes.

You should look into doing one of the racing schools up here then. For about US$1K you could put together a Phase 1 (introductory) and Phase 2 (advanced) school on two consecutive days, using the school's bike, leathers, helmet, gloves, boots, gas..... I've known people who came from as far away as SC to do that and they thought that even including the extra hotel and transportation bills, it was worth it. It's not that far a drive from NJ. You just have to make sure you book in the off-season, because the classes fill up FAST (no pun intended).

Done several at the Firebird courses over the years.

This Sept will be the first year I get to do one with my son @ Willow Springs. Best thing ever. :rockwoot:

i used to think this was quick on a track, boy was i dead wrong, oh well, it was my first trackday ever, i havnt even touched a puck down yet[/QUOTE]

Most get woken up after going to the track.

I voted yes. I've done a number of track days, most at Mid-Ohio, since they are the cheapest (free).
