Swappin out the Ultra mirrors for the cleaner look of the SG mirrors.
Old: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX014.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX013.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX015.jpg With the provided template it really was easy. used a paint marker to help set it up... then bust out the drill... AGAIN. YIKES! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX041.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX042.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX043.jpg Then simply thread on the nut... DONE! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX052.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX051.jpg Installed the HD security II system http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX032.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX033.jpg Really don't get any easier than that. Tnx HD. Now the bike will siren when its disturbed and page me. Now on-ward to more frustrating things... The HID install. a 8K 55W H4 hi/lo headlight bulb a set of 6k 35W 880 spot light bulbs Pull the outer fairing http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX016.jpg Pull the stock H4 out http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX018.jpg The hi/lo H4 HID bulb http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX019.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX020.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX021.jpg Remove the tip cover cause my headlamp already has one http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX022.jpg Modify the stock hd rubber boot slightly... but HID bulb installed http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX023.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX025.jpg Putting the stock bulb in this case the HID came in as on "on road" repair for "just in case". http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX026.jpg |
Well looking at the number of battery powers I need in the fairing... 1 for the hogtunes amp, 1 for the headlight, 2 for the spot lights. I decided I would make a mod. Run some car stereo 8 gauge power wire from the battery to the front fairing. Then a 4 spot fusable power distribution block. This will be supplemental (read: overkill) to the inline fuses for each item.
To get this power block, 3 ballasts, and a hi/lo converter in the fairing. We don't want them bouncing around. Brackets are needed! Some flat sheet metal around the garage... made some cardboard templates and poof. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX044.jpg Some spray paint for anti-corrosion http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX045.jpg Mount the hi/low converter on the back (this is for the headlight) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX048.jpg Power block on the front http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX049.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX050.jpg Right side for the 3 ballasts http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX046.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX047.jpg This is about when I ran into problems...when I purchased the HID kit, the company said the 880 bulbs would fit in my 881 holes. Lets see how that goes... Stock http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX027.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX028.jpg Comparison http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX029.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX031.jpg Oh no Scooby... the new one is a bit longer. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX030.jpg When I try to install into the spot lamp, its about 1/8" too long. It hits the inside of the lens before I can spin/lock the bulb into place. I have placed a few calls and an email into the company to see how we continue from here. I will still have to work around how to wire them into the spot housing. But can't worry about that right now... Stay tuned... |
Holy shit man, you are going to spend as much on accessories as you did on the entire bike.
|
Looks good brother...aside from beat ass customer service from a fucked up headlight company. FUCK THAT SHIT.

Seroiusly though... these are the types of mods that make it a dream to ride for hours and hours. |

this is totally on my wish list for my N. sadly, it's $250. not happening right now.
|
Yeah I'm not sure abt tt. Looks cool but hmm. Maybe dangerous.
Do they have a tach version maybe?? Is tt ness or rmd? |
Good stuff there, looks like enough to keep ya busy for a while.
my fun starts next month my ohlins 25mm cartiges just shipped yesterday. Sending them to a buddys house since hes going to do the swap for me, but am on my own installing the rear shock. karen ordered my race plastics from optimal so hopefully they arrive next week and can get them out to be painted. for the priller I can finaly by the new voltage regulator and swap that out, replace the left hand rearset that I broke on last years getoff on the skyway. take my soon to be newfound knowledge on forks and replace the front springs and pick up a new rear shock. Prolly either a penske or a wilbers. Sadly due to time and money constraints the buell wont be getting any love this winter, just dont tell marko  |
you just wiped out Harleys 2009 3rd quarter loss :lmao:

Well finally spoke to somebody. Then foind out this guy only been there for 2 days. Got his super. He ok'ed the exchange. Found out new guy wasn't giving it cause I was at 40 days past purchase and they have a 30 day policy. He over rode tt. Simply told them it was from xmas and I simply just got to it. Reminded him its 10* out here not 70* and sunny like cali!
So he sent me a rma and I will be swappin them for the H3 bulbs. Now I just need to order the proper adjure lamp and it will all go together. Also found out u can't cut or splice the wires to the bulb. NO WAY. NO HOW! So the chrome bucket is gg to need "modification". |
Nice mods, and glad to hear everything is starting to move forward with the HIDs. Will need some pics of the HIDs lit when you get em setup.
|
Oh for sure... I will get the pics!!

nice gas... i can't ever remember to take my time and do a write up when i mod my bike...
I got some mods planned... gearing, jetting, and exhaust. Then it's pretty much done... just lots of riding to be done. |
i won a fairing stay for my track bike, things should start comming together in th enext few weeks:rockwoot:
|
Ebbs... for me its a way of life. Hell the guys around the garage don't even think much of it anymore. They expect it!
Was doing some more today... but to the wife's bike. The only done to my bike was putting it back on the lift. |
Update for today:
Here's a pic of the backside mounting hardware for the mirror http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX056.jpg Being I have to wait for a bulb swap I want to put some of it back together... Put the clear cover on the power block http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX082.jpg Double sided tape it to the top of the radio. Fit perfectly under the Hogtunes amp http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX083.jpg For now, till I wire in the TDR, I just plugged it straight in on the stock wiring http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX084.jpg And lit up is why I have to HID the spot lights http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX088.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX089.jpg I love the color of the headlight. Its PERFECT. Its a 55W 8K. As before here are the things I got for the wife's bike http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX011.jpg Front Axle Before: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX057.jpg After: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...termods003.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...termods002.jpg Some primary action Before: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX059.jpg Work: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX068.jpg After: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX070.jpg but now the chain cover looks out of place. A simple black cover from the dealer from a sportster R model. Fits nicer http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...termods001.jpg The Timing cover Before: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX058.jpg After: http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX067.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX066.jpg |
I've never cared for the mirror mounted front turns
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX061.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX063.jpg Remove the mirror set screw http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX071.jpg Pull the old stem off http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX073.jpg After re-routing the wiring, mount the new stalks to the lower tripple and a much nicer look. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX081.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX076.jpg I just didn't care for the flipped stock version. This looks more "normal" to me. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX079.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX080.jpg Picked up a set of FLH lower nylon covers. With a little modification they will work. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX090.jpg This is how they are now. There is too much material. The FLH is simply wider than the sporty. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX093.jpg A simply fold and stich will do the trick. So I folded it now and pinned it. Will get my sister to stitch. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX092.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX094.jpg But should look like this once done and hopefully will allow the wife to ride in lower temps. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX095.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX096.jpg |
Looks good. My HID is 8k. I wanna get a bulb with a lower temp.

So I got my slack stiching done...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX098.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX099.jpg But there was a "flap" on the top upper corners... so a new seem there. Mark and pin it... then stitch http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX097.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX100.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX101.jpg Trial fit and cut off the excess http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX102.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX103.jpg Repeated for other side. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX104.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX105.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX107.jpg But now I notice its dangerously close to the exhaust on the right one. So I'm fashioning up something to piece in there to keep it off the exhaust. we'll see. In the Ultra dept... Got the HID bulbs in the mail for exchange and the new lenses are on their way. |
Good stitch work.

Good thing he has a talented female in the family.

very nice looking mods. i was looking at the derby and timing covers two weeks ago for my bike as well. love the way they look with a black bike.
derby cover question. any fluid come out when you pulled it off? |
thread title is no lie.
|
Quote:
Well if you look closely... its standing straight up. So no... no fluid came out. If you don't have a way to stand it up right, have somebody hold it. Otherwise you will loose some fluid. Also, pay attention to your model bike when ordering. For example. My ultra stock derby cover has an o-ring in it. The willie g skull does not, so there is now a gasket cover that goes in there. Should say right in your bike's listing for the derby cover you want. Quote:
|
yeah the listing for mine needed the "mounting kit" as they called it. glad you explained it that way. may just have to do it.
|
Still busy at it... bikes spent a few weeks at the dealer for my recall and one warrenty thing, hers in for a service... now back...
On her bike... did one last stick on mod... kinda nice how they re-use the stock cap... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX120.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...termods148.jpg Still need to work on her fairing lower wind blockers... For the Ultra... Put in a Kury universal MP3/phone holder Got it off ebay for $45 shipped with a $6 case. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX121.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX123.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX126.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX127.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX124.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX128.jpg Still need to look into hard wiring in my wiring to the stereo and whatnot. Swapped out the Ultra seat for a SG seat for a lower feel for my feet and a better look. Ultra's ultra comfortable http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX109.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX110.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX112.jpg Camparo http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX113.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX115.jpg SG Seat http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX116.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX117.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX119.jpg Working more on the HIDs Got my replacement spot lenses by Adjure... this allows me to run an H3 bulb instead of the too long 880 bulbs required by the HD lenses. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX090.jpg Left Stock http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX092.jpg Right Adjure (with stock H3 bulb) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX093.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX091.jpg |
Up close (left adjure/Right hd)
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX097.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX098.jpg The HID H3 bulb is the slightly longer bulb http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX101.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX103.jpg Installed http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX108.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX106.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX099.jpg You can NOT cut, lengthen, or alter the wires from the ballast to the bulb... this means I need a big hole in the back of the buckets... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX129.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX130.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX131.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX134.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX136.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...termods149.jpg With this mod there won't any need for the stock wiring in the bucket. Cut off those connectors in the bucket http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX132.jpg Found the wire going to each bucket as i will need it for HID wiring http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX133.jpg Install HID lamp http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX134.jpg Removed this side panel that we made before http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX142.jpg Installed a few ballasts on it. Due to spot lights and not being able to lengthen ballast wires. Moved the headlight ballast to this side so I could put the other spot ballast on top of the radio where I had the headlight ballast before. 55W headlight ballast http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX140.jpg 35W spot lamp ballast http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX141.jpg Re-installed http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX144.jpg |
I ordered a set of Time Delay Relays from Wolsentech so that none of the HID's fire up till X amount of time I set. I set for about 30 seconds. This helps the bike battery. 1 for the headlight (Hi & Low) and 1 for the spots. This really makes the wiring harder
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX143.jpg Made some lids out of sheet metal and a gasket from a piece of double sided foam sticky http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX145.jpg Zip tied down http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX147.jpg Need to tidity up some wiring and put it back together. Ran out of time. but everything is working. the time delayed HIDs are great!! And OMG they are bright! Stay tuned... |

those are some nice goodies. I hope to do a lil to my new scooter next month
|
Thanks gents.. more to come.
|
Well I finished up all but the Nightster's lower fairing cover things...
Buttoned up the HID wiring... WOW that is some wires... even before I added the HID, not its just OMG http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX148.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX149.jpg Fusey fusey http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX150.jpg Test... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX153.jpg The headlight comes on about 30secs after the key is turned on. Then about 2 secs later the spots. Finish bolting up the fairing... and test again.. Key on http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX159.jpg The coloring is PERFECT IMO (but perhaps not protrayed well with these pics) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX160.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX161.jpg Then I finished the blackberry hook up by running a headphone jack wire... Hooked into the stereo when in use http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX155.jpg When not in use http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX158.jpg To the phone http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX154.jpg When I need power. From my cig power http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Travel006.jpg Bunched the wire to shoren it... decided shrink wrap made it look better http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX156.jpg Then velcro wrap it to the bars.... probably only this way on longer trips http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX157.jpg Lastly... Stock grips http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX039.jpg some Grab On grip covers... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX040.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX164.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX165.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX166.jpg With crampbuster http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX167.jpg or not http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Mods2KX168.jpg Just need to adjust the lights and see how they look on the street. |
Should be noted... here's the products I was using..
DDM all digital HIDs with Lifetime Warrenty http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p...=101&parent=85 Wolsten Tech - Time Delay Relay (Dan is great to deal with for any questions with wiring) http://www.wolstentech.com/products/...delayrelay.php Grab On Grip Covers http://www.grabongrips.com/motorcycle.php Kuryakyn Universal Handlebar Accessory Mount http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go...ID/13/IMID/931 Then besides the cheap phone case, the rest of the parts were HD. |
Quote:
That being said, in't it great to have a cig lighter outlet on the bike. i've been thinking of adding a 2nd one in my trunk. |
No I didn't add all that... its some stock, some hogtunes, some hid, some windshield trim lights...
|
I'm surprised that any shop or HD themselfs would be that careless with wires. Is there any way that you can clean it up at all?
|
I did some after that pic. Some of the things were rubbing so I have to move a few things... Well the problem is so many wires need to go in so many different ways.... Its really more layered than the pic looks.
|
Yeh i see what looks to be 5 sets of wire installs? If that was me, I would start by buying a bunch of different color wires, wire loom plastic and some better than radio shack quality connectors, and just build the wire harness one wire at a time from scratch.
Anyway I would try and route it like this one main harness with a few legs comming off the main one: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7508/gasharness.jpg If you build it from scratch yourself you can make the wires all length to fit, wrap everything in black plastic wire loom and it would look like a proffessional install. Again the mods themselfs are cool, just the insides need some staightening. |
Looks good man. Nice work.
|
Problem is derf... room! Be surprised... even those little TDR's had to get moved... Right now I want to shake it down... once I determine there are no problems and its solid I may get back in there and do some more work...
but man let me tell ya... its tough on room in there now. |
What I failed to post a month ago
Well I thought I was done but decided to add a few more items to the wife's bike. Custom Dynamics Street Magic LEDs in the tail lights and front blinkers. The Nightster comes stock with red lenses. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods027.jpg Last year I changed them out for smoked out and couldn't find red 1157 bulbs locally. Tried some reds off ebay and they sucked, so ended up with the red "socks" over bulb. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs005.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...r/LEDs003a.jpg They function ok but look like poo So lets make the change. Now with these newer electronics you have to put in a load equalizer, due to the less draw that the LED lights pull. So a trust worthy version is BadLands. More specifically the 3rd version specifically for the XL. So here's what we have to install http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs009.jpg Pull the seat and locate this harness plug http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs008.jpg Unplug and run the equalizer inline http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs010.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs011.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs012.jpg Tuck in and push wires back into place http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs013.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs014.jpg Pop the lens off with a flat screwdriver http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs015.jpg Pull the bulb out http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs016.jpg Plug in and twist into place with a screwdriver, just as you would with the bulb http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs017.jpg Turn the LED board to spool the wire to allow the board to fit, use the lens to hold them in place. Takes 2 hands. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs019.jpg BAM http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...r/LEDs021a.jpg Repeat on other tail light. The fronts also came with the orange lenses, that I replaced with smoked and orange bulbs http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods005.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/Mods026.jpg These looked fine and worked good. However, if you do the rear, got to do the front to keep up the look. In goes the LED http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs020.jpg BAM http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs022.jpg |
Lights please...
Rears http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...r/LEDs027a.jpg Left blinker (hard to see with the wierd side light from the open garage) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...r/LEDs032a.jpg Fronts http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs023.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs033.jpg With these Eclipse versions for the fronts. Instead of going from level 1 brightness and blink brighter.. these actually turn off and back on instead. They say this makes them more visible. To avoid the "left hand turner in front of you". http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...er/LEDs026.jpg |
Looks much better.
|
Yeah plus the leds hv lifetime warrenty.
