Homebrew gear indicator

looks neat, especially if you know anything about electronics |
if I didn't already have one stock, I probably would of built one just to do it.

www.mouser.com edit: on further evaluation looks kinda dumb, you have to mount the stupid sensors next to the gear shift. |
Why bother - a lot of the TRE's out there also have a gear indicator built in depending on where you get the TRE.
|
An old gear ind kit I had on my '01 had a two way switch attached to the shifter and you wired it to the neutral light. You start out in neutral and the unit could count up or down... Sometimes it would mess up and you had to go to neutral to reset it.

interesting concept - was that stock (I'm assuming not ), aftermarket or something home made/

My parents gave me a gear indicator for my birthday. Its called brain, ass, and ears. It works on every bike I have owned.

Yea but im wondering about whether its precise enough not to count a down or upshift into neutral as an actual shift.

I mean the only time having a gear indicator would be beneficial, IMO, would be at the track. And even after an hour at a new track, you should have an idea what gear to be in at what turn, its kind of important. |

Whatever, I had a gear indicator on my '81 Seca 750 and I missed it until I got another one... Now if every OEM would install blinker cancel on every bike like I had on my '88 VMax, I could die happy...
