Ghey

Actually, when you came up here that was the bike I rode, really cool

the chi 03-23-2011 12:43 PM

I am seriously jealous. Thats awesome, let me know what you think. The hubby may be considering getting one after he sells the cruiser. That or the 650.

lauralynne 03-23-2011 01:22 PM

very nice!

Archren 03-23-2011 01:23 PM

That bike makes me have the uncontrollable urge to say "giggity" repeatedly.

Trip 03-23-2011 01:27 PM

blue koolaid is always good.

Surprised you went with the varios though.

CasterTroy 03-23-2011 01:30 PM

I'd LOVE one of those with a 17" wheel conversion. Teach McNeil has one converted but he's tight lipped on how it GOT that way

Nice ride Moira :rockwoot:

smileyman 03-23-2011 01:52 PM

I'm liking it! Congrats!

Bluestreak 03-23-2011 01:55 PM

Mmm.... that's very nice!

Ride report?

KSGregman 03-23-2011 03:18 PM

Awesome...jealous in a fairly intense kinda way.

Particle Man 03-23-2011 04:34 PM

 I love the GS in that color and I love the 800 because of the chain drive. Love it!!

Tmall 03-23-2011 09:15 PM

That's a great looking bike.

Gas Man 03-23-2011 11:08 PM

Nice scoot.

Let's see pics of you on it.

Cutty72 03-23-2011 11:35 PM

So what that a "bonus" for working there, or what kind of kick ass deal does BMW throw at employees?

Nice ride too!!! ;)

Sweet ride...parallel twin 800?

So you can't get a "direct from the manufacturer" discount? Or none of the dealers work a deal for employees?

I know when I was working for Gekko we could design our own boat and buy it 10% over cost, no dealers involved. If only I would have had the money...

Well, I now have an "in" at various dealers that I've worked with that would give me a killer deal. My local dealer understands that not only do I work for BMW Motorrad, but with this I can put the Roundel in front of locals that will look to them to buy.

Kaneman 03-24-2011 11:17 AM

Only BMW I ever rode was Whip's (that's the second time I've brought him up today) GS1200 Adventure (correct me if I'm wrong there). Anyway, that bike felt like a tractor, in a good way. It was so torquey and the gears were all CLUNK CLUNK. It was a very cool scoot.

The Adventure is the cracked up version of what Trip owns.

Brick motor - same motor as in the RT. Torque - you aint kidding!! In such an awesome and delicious way.

Cass 03-24-2011 07:16 PM

Aww... I miss Whip. Haven't talked to him in ages.

Nice ride Moi :)

Scot 03-27-2011 10:22 PM

I prefer the 800, but I bought the 1200 for a reason. I may trade down for my next bike to a 800 now that I know the wife still won't ride very often even with a big comfy bike.

The 800 just has a more sportbike like experience. The 1200 is definitely 100x more comfortable for touring though.

I wouldnt say it has sportbike in its blood, maybe more of a supermoto on steroids. But either way its a fun bike

No way, the thing rides 100x more like a sportbike than a supermoto. It's too big and heavy to be a motard. I wouldn't even consider it close to a hyper, because it doesn't have similar power to weight. It's more like a naked sportbike. Same blood as an SV.

Looks like we are gonna disagree on this one. My professional OPINION is that it is more liek a SM than an sportbike. Yes its bigger and heavier, but feels the same and handles like a SUPERMOTO. And its tall as shit too.

I dont think its at all comparable to an SV, a Vstrom maybe.

We are talking about the bike in the picture bellow right?

http://www.sierrabmwonline.com/image...F650-800GS.JPG

azoomm 03-28-2011 07:50 PM

Sorry derf, I'm with trip on this. If just because you sit more *in* it than *on* it. A true sm you would sit *on*. That, and the weight.

It's my professional opinion, you're wrong.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

azoomm 03-28-2011 08:21 PM

 OK

I had it out on the track yesterday. My KTM is a supermoto, this definitely doesn't handle like that does...

Trip 03-28-2011 08:40 PM

How much seat time do you actually have on one, Derf?

Moira has a ton and I have been on several spirited rides on one since Moira introduced the bike to me at the Johnson City BMWMOA event. It's not a motard in the slightest.

Trip 03-28-2011 11:36 PM

Zoomie, if you are ever interested in changing the colors of that orange sticker, let me know and I will hook ya up. That was my biggest complaint about the white 800. The orange just didn't flow to me.

I love the orange, it just doesn't match all my gear. It actually matches my husband's

Red would be spectacular.

Oh no....that is 2 guys on ADV rider. http://www.lukeandnick.com/

Not sure of their backstory, but apparently plenty of money and no jobs.

They did a trek across South America last year and now they're trying to cover all of Africa this spring. The adventure is wild as hell and something 99% of the ADV riders can actually DO.....Trace is about in the best position to do something like this...but MOST of us have to live vicariously THRU fella's like this.

Dropping 600 pounds as opposed to almost 1000 pounds over 90 degrees in a mudhole makes a HUGE difference.

I would have chosen the 800 as well

(I'm talking potential carrying weight...the GS ADV can carry a lot more fuel and weight...and you'd be tempted to max that out, where on the 800, you don't have that GVWR)

Plus the 800 would be kinder to tires (assumption on my part)

But that's just my opinion as a logic-minded engineer :idk:

The size was a big [HUGE] part of my choice. And, I haven't ever gone across Africa like these guys - but, I'd imagine fuel isn't around every corner. The 800 has an itty bitty tank. Yes, I know there are expanding options. But, dang.

I love my bike.

I mean, REALLY love this bike.

OK, first add-ons for me today. I got a top case and GPS mount with a waterproof case for my phone. I plan on putting my phone in the case clipped onto the mount to use it as a GPS. I don't do anything more serious, yet. This bike inspires trips... seriously.

So, my husband and I rode today. I used about 3/4 of a gallon of fuel to his tank. Unbelievable.

It's amazing how quick some of us East Tenn boys can get through a tank on a GS. You would not believe how fast this one guy can get though a GSA tank. It's ridiculous.

Trip, I almost killed the 800 when I was in the cascades last year at MOA. I mean, we're out in the mountains and don't know where the next station is... read-out says " --- miles left" :panic: It was a case of coasting on each downhill that I could. And, hope the gas stations are open on Sunday.

The super tenere may not even fully make it this year. The tsunami has killed the japan imports over here.
