My EX500 streetfighter project(pics included)
 

well, here's my EX500 project, for those who are curious to see what the bike looks like, and should be when completed. I give my friend's at TSB the credit for their fine photoshop skills.

The bike is a 92 EX500A, been abused by previous owners, so plastics looked kinda crappy up close and drove me nuts. I did my own tag location mod, which is completely legal but looks REALLY good to me. the rear signals are Yamaha R6 signals I trimmed the rubber grommets down on and bolted to some 3/4"x1/8" aluminum stock and hung where the bungee hooks used to be. very effective and fairly protected from harm by footpegs. bright as hell too.

Changes in the works so far: last photo reflects a Buell Blast headlight, modified lower fairing to be a chin spoiler, everything painted black. and I'm considering altering the seat to an 87 ZX1000 split setup because I like the lines of that seat. also installing SV650S gauge cluster for a more "modern" look. I'm THINKING about some mesh to cover the sides where the electrical stuff is so its obscured, but still has airflow for stuff like the regulator to be cooled effectively.

Looks like a fun project to say the least. Split seat definitely looks good. Check out moto-madness.com for some streetfighter headlight set-ups.

Yeah, it did a little. your colors were a TOUCH off though. you had the turn signal wires backwards. then I, like a dummy, AFTER testing to see which wire was which and finding this out, STILL followed your wiring directions.

Right now, I have a working tach, although it cuts out between 5-7k rpm. I think its got a lot to do with my rectifier being burnt up, and no stator. I've still yet to figure out my temp sending wires for the cluster.

b. go to the track

Try go above 120. Which I have little desire to do.

I just straight up dont give a damn. I'll rock this thing ANYWHERE, ANYTIME.
It does what I want, which is to go 55-90 on I-75, but thats about all I give a damn about, other than corners.

Street fighters are cool in the sense that they give off an "i dont give a fuck" attitude. but if you dont give a fuck then why do you need to let everybody know? another case of people trying to be different just like everybody else.

that might be my next bike NtS... not the factory version though... (don't like the gold frame) still try'n to decide... won't be till aug next year or so when I make my mind up...

Isnt that the same thing? Nobody can see your personality unless they know you. If you buy a bike that you think matches your personality, then you are trying to make a statement with it.

power? I have PLENTY for my needs. if I had the power your bikes have, I'd be in jail or dead. I dont think I'm mature enough to own a supersport anything just yet.

I'd like to see a 500 version of the 250 motardTrip has a pic of...

I'm not talking about hotrodding the whole engine, but if you're going to do the streetfighter then you gotta at least do some mild tunings.

there is absolutely nothign that CAN be done to increase power that I havent done already.
I've already given it a good complete tuneup, some valve adjustments. any modification beyond a 2:1 header actually REMOVES power from my bike. rejetting is a waste on this bike because it runs just perfect as it is.

Hotter cams and shit. Booku money.

not worth it. its got all the power I feel I'm capable of responsibly using. if I sink the money into hotter cams and such, why dont I just go buy an SV? ya know? a decent used 2nd gen one is available usually for under $4k.

Fuck that, a SF is GREAT at a tight track! Hell the upright position/lack of wind protection is exactly the same as my motard and that thing ROCKS at the track!

Just to update everybody, I'm planning on an 06 GSXR 600 headlight to go onto it. if nothing else, I'll make DAMNED good use of the projector on it.

Nice... but I'd mount it upside down...

then the beam would be reflected up... it'd be A LOT of work to get the headlight to shine on the road

nah, as it is, if I can mount a helmet on top of it, it'll have a predator like look, and I could customize it to look like one.
