Itlaian nekkids

So I'm thinking buying an Italian Nellie bike, about $9k

Options i'm considering

07.5- 08 aprilia tuono factory
09 monster 1100s
'11 Monster 796

Opinions

Smittie61984 09-12-2011 10:32 AM

Those 796s look bad ass.

tommymac 09-12-2011 12:39 PM

Start small LOL

I would go withthe tuono, nice nekkid bike with plenty of balls.

Porkchop 09-12-2011 03:50 PM

Interested in the thread title... thread doesn't deliver.... jk

I love the monster line since the redesign. If I had 7k, id have a monster 696 in my garage right now. Saw plenty of both 796 and 1100 at the Indy gp. There was an 1100s with Termis on it that openened it up as we were walking to the car. I was in love. Honestly, if you have the $, go for the 1100.

hmmm....down to $8200, 8600mi

lotsa Rizoma stuff to make it more comfy and upright. for us old guys, and is a few hrs away

http://i53.tinypic.com/abqzk2.jpg

do i really "need" ohlins stuff

the other bike i'm talking too is in chicago, an 1100s, 6000mi, FMF exhaust and thats about it, so i gotta ride it back and its $9000

Tmall 09-14-2011 04:33 PM

I know it's not Italian, but this thing is hot..

Ack my decision gets harder, so I drop by my local duc shop, sales mgr is.a long time friend/riding buddy.

They have a MINT 09 monster 1100 w 6-700mi, for $9200, and that's before the buddy deal, I expect $8700

The other 1 4 hrs away has $1000+ worth of mods I'd prob end up doing anyways, exhaust and clutch cover but has 6000mi

I really have my heart set on an S bike w ohlins stuff, but the reality is that it's going to really be a commuter bike w a few weekend rides...

Of the two posted...

I love white bikes but Italians are just plain sexy in red.

That and FMF makes MX pipes, Ducs get Termis.

You're not going to use the Ohlins anyway so why bother?

Is that your way of NOT saying you posted from your iPad?

Love love love the white. I also like them in the flat black.

How is the money situation? If $1000 is no problem... why not get the Ohlins bits? Seems like the first 3 have all about the same miles. Well, the one in chicago will once you get it all the way home. And you gotta think, if you get the ultra low mile one from your buddy, you're still going to have to dump a bunch of money on goodies. So you will probably end up spending more going that route.

RACER X 09-15-2011 06:52 AM

i agree, i don't like FMF on ducs, but the more i read about the ohlins bits the more i like, the best riding bike i've ever ridden was a '00.5 mille R w/ full ohlins......

i have my phone signature set up to say

Sent from some cool elec. device

lol

Someone ought to get clever and set one up to say "Sent from the ECU of my Ducati".

Wouldn't it be interesting to see which motorcycles have the 'smartest' onboard computers these days?

ah, i went and talked w/ my local duc shops and both agreed, it's gonna need a mojor service and belts when i got back from chi, so another $1000-1200.

now the bike isn't worth it to me, so the search continues.

RACER X 09-16-2011 02:55 PM

hmmm..........dan kyle racing can get me a new rear ohlins for $510, and revalve the ft forks to my weight for $650.....

maybe get the "brand new" one from my buddy and build it up

Porkchop 09-16-2011 05:24 PM

Thats too bad, the white is schmexy, and the ride would have been a good bonding moment.

Sidebar.

I bought an Ohlins rear shock for the TLR from a member on CF, and had it rebuilt by Dan Kyle Racing. They called me a couple of times asking about weight, riding style and a few other things. Easy to talk to, deal with and his service was fast.

RACER X 10-11-2011 11:00 AM

now AF1 has 'new' '10 Tuono Factories for $10.6k + fee's.......

most used '08 factories are still in the $8-9k range w/o an exhaust, so for $2k more is it worth it to go new?

CasterTroy 10-11-2011 03:30 PM

Check Carolina's inventory for something you may like

I'll check with the owner and see what "buddy deals" I can get you.

May be you buy ANOTHER bike from GSO and ride it back :rockwoot:

RACER X 10-12-2011 03:34 PM

I'd be on that!!!!

anthonyk 10-13-2011 01:57 PM

If I had the cash, I would definitely hit up AF1 for one of those.
