Goodbye Mr. Jobs

Just read that Steve Jobs has passed away. Surprising, to say the least. Whether you love Windows, Linux, or OS X, you cannot deny that Jobs forced innovation in the technology sector and inspired manufacturers to focus on usability, ergonomics, and design. Farewell technology icon, you will be missed.

Trip 10-05-2011 07:56 PM

It's true, he was an innovator.

I had no idea he was this close........ Sad

RIP

Right now I'm using my Macbook Pro with feverish intensity. In his honor.

He left his mark on all of us for sure. RIP ya big nerd.

Adeptus_Minor 10-05-2011 09:36 PM

Never been a Mac/iEverything fan, but his role in making technology part of our daily lives is undeniable. His legacy will, no doubt, outlive him by decades.

Gas Man 10-05-2011 09:42 PM

Not a MAC FAN but props givin.

RIP Jobs

Probably did effect him, he probably held on to see it announced and let go afterward.

pauldun170 10-05-2011 10:44 PM

Its a little weird hearing folks who just yesterday complain about those "greedy rich ceo's" come close to tears over an actual greedy rich ceo.

I feel bad for anyone who has to go what he went through and I feel bad for his family.
As for his legacy....its just "stuff"

They seem to only be rich and greedy CEOs if they operate something we need (or at least feel we need). Bank CEOs are greedy because we need banks for loans and to hold our wealth. Insurance CEOs are greedy becuase people need health insurance. How dare they charge for a service.

Peple don't need the I-whatever5sv2.8. Nor do people need to go to a starbucks and spend extra for coffee. So those CEOs are okay.

EpyonXero 10-06-2011 12:03 AM

Always been an Apple/Mac fan since my first computer as a kid. I hope they can continue to make good products. By all accounts Steve was an asshole but you have to respect what he was able to do.

Porkchop 10-06-2011 12:17 AM

Never been a fan of the iPod or iPhone lines, but I may decide to test out this whole macbook thing once the bank account grows a bit and my Sony lets go.

Cancer sucks. Rip Steve.

I wouldn't call his recent history that of an innovator, as he didn't create any of the technologies that his products used, but he was a marketing genius who could sure read societal trends. The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player, but it became the ubiquitous one. The iPhone wasn't the first smartphone, but it's the one everyone thinks of first.

Rider 10-06-2011 08:41 AM

mehhh I dont really care.....I'm not an apple fan. It's sad when anyone dies but I have no vested interest in this guy.

My only experience with apple is iTunes, iPods, iPhones, and apple computers in the early 90's, and they all suck beyond belief.

Hell, he didn't even create his first products, Woz did. Then he stole some other products that made him big. PARC and such. He was an epic businessman and thought ahead of the pack. He bought and banked off other innovators work. He isn't a new Edison or Franklin, he sold their products well.

Homeslice 10-06-2011 09:11 AM

Apple's legacy is in design ---- They forced other companies to face the fact that design is important -- it's not just something women or gay people like. No matter what you manufacture, cars, toasters, whatever, you can't just build some POS that doesn't feel good to use. You need to hire people who actually studied design and give them more influence.

t-homo 10-06-2011 09:12 AM

"Pirates of SIlicon Valley" is a good movie about the start-up and history of Apple and Microsoft. Pretty good watch, really shows them for who they were.

I'm with you - he wasn't necessarily a mad scientist. He was more the evil genius of marketing/business. Good for him, man... good for him.

You've inspired me. My current toaster just doesn't feel good when I use it, so I will be designing a new one that makes me tingle over toast.

Would you buy a new car if it still had an 80's interior?

I'm at school and allt he apple people (mainly freshmen who didn't pay for a single apple product) are going nuts and doing nothing but talk about it. They kept referring to him as the Thomas edision of our time.

The funniest part is my 1st class was in teh computer science building and all the computer science majors have anything but a Macbook.

I wonder if the OWS crowd has takena rest to mourn the loss of such a rich and ruthless ceo

Eh, I despise when people use the street as their personal racetrack, and never had reason to like the guy, but I'm genuinely sad about 101lifts. Life is full of contradictions and gray areas.

Even GM's interiors have improved dramatically.

A lot of people claim "I only care about power and/or fuel economy and/or how it rides", but I guarantee if a car's dashboard looks like shit and the controls aren't ergonomic and don't feel good to use, it will damage that car's reputation.

Trip 10-06-2011 11:43 AM

Another thing about Apple is the products were designed to be intuitive. Dumb/non technical people could use and use them well. Simple and elegant design working together. Look at the damn wheel on the ipod, that control was very very simple, yet genius. I miss the wheel, lol.

Jobs is someone who's been with Apple a very long time, and demonstrated personal involvement and vision that had an impact on the whole company & its products.

Compare that with the "average" CEO, who only serves for 2 years and then bails, and who never provides a game-changing vision. They just toss around the standard lines they picked up from a management book.

Exactly. Apple ddnt invent the MP3 player or the tablet or smart phone but they made it work the way people wanted before they new they wanted it.

Battle Cyborg? LOL.......You mean cheap hard plastic, sharp corners, hella sun reflection, vinyl shift boots, turn signal relays that make way too much noise, lame "A-spoked" 2-spoke steering wheels, and center consoles that squeak every time your knee hits them?

October 5, 2011, Apple announced that Jobs had died. He was 56 years old. Apple expressed disappointment that its model of CEO had demonstrated only around 70% of the battery life of its competitors. However, it noted that it created one of the thinnest, lightest CEOs on the market, and that it expected the newer model, Tim Cook, to have battery life comparable to other CEOs on the market.

I think a new Challenger with that interior would be the most bitching car ever made!

I guess since enough time has passed...
VP Biden called Obama today and congratulated him. When Obama asked what for, Biden replied "I heard that Jobs passed"
(I butchered it some/a lot)

I've been looking for a convenient wild challenger so I can get a size comparison between it and the shelby. There's over 1000lbs difference
