Rear Master Cylinder/Caliper Help

Does anyone know which years are interchangable with my 03 SV650S?

Thanks! :D

bmblebee 12-14-2008 03:54 PM

The SV I have sitting in my garage has the same rear caliper as my F4i...and I believe the triumph 675 too...

What year is the SV and F4i?

I found a master cylinder/caliper assemby on ebay for an 08 but I don't know if it'll fit my bike ('03 SV650S). :idk:

It's not working and I'm tired of fucking with it.

The rear brake just completely stopped working all of a sudden. I put another master cylinder on it and have bled the brakes and the rear brake still isn't working. I've noticed the piston in the caliper isn't moving, so maybe it's the rear caliper? :idk: I've been told it could still very be the master cylinder, it could be that we (me and two friends) didn't get all the air out of the line even though we bled the rear brake all day and then some after putting another master cylinder on it.

I'm not mechanically inclined...I'm frustrated with it as it is. I know I can do more troubleshooting...I know I can get a rebuild kit for the caliper to save money, but that is moot at this point. I don't feel like fucking with all that anymore and just want a working rear brake.

make very sure that there is zero moisture in the brake fluid. My rear brake stopped working and I kept scratching my head trying to figure out what was going on... apparently in the short amount of time I had the brake fluid open it had absorbed moisture and effed it up.

Could you explain how your bleeding it I have found many people think they know how to bleed brakes until they try it and then find out they don't.

Brakes are really very simple.

If you push the brake lever down does it move? If it moves does it go all the way down very easy.

It wasn't me that actually bled them...two of my friends did who've bled their brakes before without issue.... :idk:

Totally not the thread I thought it would be from the homepage.

The 08 SV is ABS so be sure to verify that they interchange. I doubt it though.

I didn't know that Stephanie....so we need to find you an 03-07 master cylinder and caliper. Course there was the one for $65, still a good deal for the whole assembly I think.

Make sure the bleeder is pointing up on the rear caliper. If it's pointing down, you have to take the caliper off to bleed them to get the air out. If it's down, and they didn't take it off while they bled them, that's easy to fix cheap, and you'd probably find the new one you buy messed up too...

It's actually been a little over a year since I had a rear brake. My friends helped me work on it once several months ago and I've had a few others look at it. Another friend of mine wants to see what he can do before I buy another. He seems to think he can fix it so... :idk:

And the bleeder valve is pointing up. ;)

This causes all sorts of problems on Aprilia's.
