Not the wrong type - just not enough. That size you'd need about 4 or 5 of them to extiguish that size fire.

it's a design flaw - the corner of the gas tank sticks out past the frame and, as you can easily see, grounds right through in a crash. There are now 'tank protectors' out there and our race club just passed a rule that they're required on '07 & '08 R6's for that very reason. Let's hope they work.

Some have tested well. WERA made them mandatory too.

Thats interesting.

z06boy 03-24-2008 01:11 PM

Something else to add to the list...tank protectors...steering damper...:read:

marko138 03-24-2008 01:14 PM

Well this goes without saying. Only the manliest of manlies wouldn't run. And we all know that is neither you or I.

z06boy 03-24-2008 02:10 PM

I would say fire + gas + possibility of getting run over...if you don't run you're not manly...you're stupid or crazy or both.

The title of the vid is retarted. That doesn't make me think twice about going to a track day. Stuff like that happens. I might as well post a vid of someone getting robbed and title it "This might make you think twice about going outside."

my insurance covers track days because it considers them driving schools because they are noncompetitive.

Full coverage on both bikes. :dthumb: I'll have to check into the "trackdays" or riding school coverage though.

NONE_too_SOFT 03-25-2008 09:14 PM

SHIT that thing burned good.

but the whole time watching that im thinking "why the fuck doesnt the other guy pick up his bike", i'm not gonna let it sit on its side for that long and risk fucking up some fluids or leaking battery acid or some crazy shit.

I'd be on that shit and get my bike away from that burning pile of shit.

upshift 03-25-2008 09:19 PM

Correcto. And they do work. There are three options out there right now. I'm going for the traxxion tank sliders. Since my bike is black, they don't look too terrible. They deal on ebay, the sliders sell for 120 plus 10 shipping Here.

The ETI sliders are 180 bucks... you'll want to paint them as well
Here.

The adrenaline city racing ones are 100 bucks Here.

Here is a pic of some traxxion sliders that saved a guy's bike in a pretty bad crash... it was at like 120mph IIRC.

Considering the violence of that particular crash, they did a great job. If they weren't there, the tank would have been completely destroyed/split and likely ignited... not just on this particular bike, but on many sportbikes.
