Now that was good. But I had plans to make it better. I didn't like the way you had to get off the bike, hold it with one hand while you spin on the front wheel vice... scary biz and not worth the risk.
Got a Condor Wheel Chaulk with chopper bar, and 2 different front tire setups http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor004.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor005.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor007.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor011.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor009.jpg You see where I'm going? The old vise setup http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor013.jpg Remove it http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor014.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor015.jpg Pull the front supporting rod http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor016.jpg Grab the chopper extension that is needed for this setup. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor018.jpg Mount that on the lift http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor020.jpg Mount the trailer adapter so I can use the condor both on and off the lift http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor022.jpg Install the adapters to the condor for the trailer hookup http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor024.jpg Slide in and bolt with thumb screw http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Condor025.jpg |

Puts me at about $1600 into the lift. But damn it works so well!!!! here we go again... this time my neighbor, aka Sgt, with his and mine limited amount of compatitable free time... my neighbors 04 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 spent about 5 days on the lift.... I don't mind and I don't charge. I figure if the owner works on it with me its no charge. You want to drop off and pick up when done... I need at least food and drink. Anyway... here we go... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean001.jpg Bust out the new V&H 2:1 pipes http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean004.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean005.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean007.jpg The old stock system http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean008.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...an/Sean009.jpg Bolt that up. Bad idea! 10K he says. Have you changed the fork or diff oil (shaft drive)?? Worse idea! he says NO. But damn it kills the postwhoring... Who or what will be next?? Not sure... But for now the Phoenix is taking up that space.... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ild/100014.jpg |
Two words; Baller. Status.
Questions; How easy is it to clean off the top part when you spill oil, lube, brake fluid etc? Can you just tip it like a tow truck bed and hose it off? I see it has wheels on one end of it's base and a handle on the other, how much does it weigh? Easy to move around? I see electrical cords in a couple pics, it has a power lift mechanism? If so, can it be lifted manually if the powers out for some reason? |
1. Its a glossier style black diamond plate. Really smooth so it wipes up really easy. I usually clean it off with windex and a rag.
2. It weights like 700# or about 1 harley! :D On the painted floor with no bike on it... it slides around pretty well. Plus as you can see the in the first slightly assembled pic of it... it came with a hand truck that helps roll it around on those wheels. Their real is to roll when the lift goes up and down. 3. The electric cords are just for the battery tender or my little heater (its cold here in the winter). The lift is 100% air powered. |
Sweet rig, wish you were my neighbor.
|
Forgot this... and added above... even non-two wheeled things make it to the lift

lol.. jesus gasman that is some serious shit - only thing that is missing is pics of MP's R6 up on the lift being worked on.. we will rectify that soon.. this summer for sure.. |
I'm sorry... I just realized I never got pics of a few other choppers on there... oh well... you get the point... and I'll try to keep this up to date...

Couple of comments.
1. That lift is seriously bad ass. I'm envious of such a sweet setup. 2. No way in hell I'd put that chopper on the Sears jack. No fucking way. 3. Gas, I love you buddy...but I cannot stand the look of choppers. 4. Sportsters are uglier than Choppers. 5. Your chop looks way cooler after the rebuild. |
Quote:
2. Again, I agree completely. Looks unstable. 3. I must disagree on that. 4. Yes, but have you seen the Nightster? I hate sportsters, but do like the Nightster. 5. Agree, but the little headlight looks odd on that big bike. |
I have my bike on a Harbor Freight jack similar to Gas' Sears jack... It's rock solid.
|
Yeah but your bike isn't 30K dollars and isn't as long as a semi truck.

Who got gm started on his million pics posts again?! Nice lift, great work on the bike. Though if I had one and had done such work to a new perfectly fine bike that costs that much I'd probly post it a million times too.

2. In comparison I agree, but it does work. 3. Don't worry I don't like pink either! But I will still ride with ya any day! 4. They have their place and use. 5. Thanks! Quote:

Well any of you are welcomed in my garage. I've had the neighbors honda on the lift more than my bikes over the last few weeks. Told the owner his Honda has been hanging around my american bikes too much... starting to need more wrenching time from the "american bike disease"!
|
Does the garage floor next to the lift count?
a few buddies showed up for lets see.... Honda jetting, AIH jetting and carb adjustment, new brake pads front and rear, and new brake fluid. So I went from bike to bike, wrenched and gave directions... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...5bikes001a.jpg Thanks Sgt. for recoganition for the help. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../5bikes003.jpg Chopper Nick... take your stupid air cleaner cover off so I can jet the damn carb! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...5bikes004a.jpg Then another HD showed up... thankfully much like the wife's bike under the cover. The HD's were the only bikes out of the 5 that didn't need a wrench! There goes that old saying!!! At the end of the day or allowed time the only thing that got done on my bike was making it worse but we got their bikes done. Oh well... another day tomorrow. |
And sometimes there are other things on MY lift that even keep MY bike from getting to it. Then you just do the work where you can.
Needed to check some stuff on the front end... didn't show it... but pulled the fender, fork brace, and a few other things... nothing too bad. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...infront004.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...infront007.jpg More on what is on the lift later... |
looks like a newer cb750

one of these days i will make it over there - wanted to do it before july 4th but time is short..

Just need to let me know so we can fit it in.

Well the "Project Bike" that was shown above is a 1981 Honda Nighthawk 650.
Its my neighbor's, Sgt, buddy's bike. It was sitting at his fathers. Hasn't been rode in 2 years and even then was barely rode. It only has 17XX miles on it. It was running well on 3 out of 4 cylinders. Got it to run on the 4th cylinder by letting it warm up. So the carbs need to at the very least be pulled and cleaned. Probably need to be sync'ed. The front brakes were drained cause a caliper was holding up. However, it looks like the front calipers are one piece. So I don't think they can easily be rebuilt. The rear brakes are mechanical drum brakes. It obviously will need oil changed, could use some new front blinker covers. The owner just started a new job, has no money to spend, so LOW budget. And he just wants it to run so he can ride it to work (5 min ride from his home). He has ZERO dollars into it before we start. So here's the bike before. Understand it won't look any different after. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project003.jpg With the plastics and gas tank removed http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project010.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project009.jpg going in deeper... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project004.jpg There use to be a horn! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project005.jpg Get the airbox, and battery box out http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project007.jpg Carbs out http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project006.jpg Stripped down http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project011.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project008.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project014.jpg Drain the oil and pull the cartridge oil filter http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project015.jpg Pull apart the brakes http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project012.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project013.jpg Now its been waiting for the guys to return to start working on it again. (The only way I don't charge) And we need a bunch of supplies... till then boys and girls. |
ditch that bitch ass airbox and put some individual filters on that thing....or better yet, some stacks! 1981...hmm, probably got smog stuff on it, cap all that crap off, yank the busted ass turn signals off, lose the mini ape's and put some superbike bars on there, hit the front fender, exhaust, and anything else that used to be chrome with some steel wool, and boom! sweet budget custom hondog
|
SHIT... I got to get the owner to buy some damn brake fluid, motor oil, oil filter, and maybe some brake calipers off ebay. (supposely the current calipers will stop but not release???)
|
cheap oil, cheap fluid, generic filter-20bucks max
bars are 15new, filters like 25. atleast take the air filter out the airbox. do both calipers not release? how long has it been sitting? 2yrs-hmm, try to flush the whole system. sounds retarded, but i took a piece of flat metal, bout 1/8inch thick, stuck it between the pads and pumped the brakes , then forced it back out and used a screwdriver to pry the pads apart and do it again. did that a few times, bled the brakes until the fluid was relatively light again, and that fixed my buddys stuck caliper. oh and i hit it with a hammer a couple times at first. i think i got some individual filters and some bars from my bike if he wants em. i got clip-ons now and they kick fuckin ass |
Well Wed I get a call from a buddy. Tuesday night my buddy had to limp his bike home, cause his clutch "went out". Wanted me to come over and check it out.
"Gas Man's Mobile Service" http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench001.jpg Start tearing into the bike http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench004.jpg Checkin the ball ramp assembly http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench002.jpg Adjust the clutch http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench003.jpg But this ain't good!!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench008.jpg Especially when you still got this!!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench009.jpg Finally get it adjusted in tight... pull the lever... POP and then no more movement which we find out cause the ball ramp is already fully extended. One of 2 things wrong... broken carrier or tranny nut loose and basket moving. Bike is under warrenty... he says... FUCK it, he's got a few other things that he's been putting off (non riding problems) so he'll take it in. OK I say... reminding him it could be something simple but we would have to bust open the primary... he says... FUCK it.. take it in. That was it... packed up cause after 20 mins of being at his house, I got another guy calling me about his bike dead at his buds house. Turns over but no sparky! Peace out current guy... here I come to bike #2. WTF! To finish one bike story I'll skip bike #2 for now. Calls around Thursday and Friday trying to get figure out what dealership to take it to... but they all say it will be at least a week before they look at it... which will mean no bikey thru 4th of July w/e. FUCK...right? So tonight he calls... he got pissed and took it apart him self.... pulled the outer primary, pull the diaphram spring... tranny nut hand loose!!! Tighten it up... put it all back together... BAM... job well done. He calls me a few times during the night to ask questions while I'm working on bike #2 again... and tells me how much it sucked to not have a lift or jack. Clutch plates kept falling out, oil everywhere, pure suck! But job is done, tomry he gets some primary oil and takes it for a spin in between rain storms. |
Bike #2 (American IronHorse Legend (red chopper) pictured earlier in this thread) Wed night...
Got there... no sparky gettin gas carb sprayin start turns like crazy power at the coils No service manual... hell AIH don't even make one for his bike!! WTF With no service manual, I got no idea what to look for to help trouble shoot these electronics. If its not mechanical and you don't have a service/shop manual, you are completely lost. BUY YOUR DAMN SERVICE MANUALS PEOPLE!!!! I tell him I think its his ignition, cause if it was the coils I don't think both coils would go at the same time. He tells me it was running like shit last week in Mrytle after he got caught in the rain. But without anything to help troubleshoot I got nothing but ideas on throwing parts at it from educated guess. Thursday he calls a few dealerships and they tell him they are 99% sure its the "igniter" which I said "that's a fuckin fancy ass name for an ignition (Jackasses)". $134 + S&H = $150 part to get down and dirty!! So we are planning on going to get the bike and trailer it to his house. He gets there... it starts up. Guess the damn POS igniter dries out enough to start. We get to his house and tear into it... find the ignitor and check it out a bit... nothing obvious... put some dielectric on the connection... put it all back together... doesn't start. FUCKIN POS!!! Friday he calls the dealership that has it in stock in fuckin Texas... orders the damn part. Sense he's down... we figure we'll tackle into his ever problematic clutch problems that he's had the entire time he has had the bike (bought it used). So Friday I go back over there and start rippin into it... Checked the clutch cable actuator... all good. But clutch just pure sucks!!! Well tore the the primary apart... Outer gone http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench010.jpg The tranny nut was tight. Front sprocket and clutch basket out of here http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench011.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench012.jpg No carrier scars on the primary as the tranny nut told. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench016.jpg The AIH clutch basket and carrier are so much stronger looking than the Baker DSSC setup on stock big dogs and this one is great condition http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench013.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench014.jpg My prediction to the problem. The clutch fibers are gone. IMO I didn't have my mikes so I couldn't check their thickness. But I don't believe there is enough measurement between the segments on the fibers. Also, noticed while pulling the plates... they were sticking together REALLY bad/well. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench017.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench018.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench019.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench020.jpg I'm going to call Bandit monday to check on what clutch to order and to talk to the head tech guy (the owner) and see what he thinks of our problems.... too be continued... |
That is 3 days of wrenching on bikes out of the back of my vechicles!!

Was over there at Nick's sat afternoon for a few. Checking the ball ramp again, pulling the rest of the clutch rod. All is well. Took a bunch of measurements with my calipers so i can call the clutch manufacture and ask some questions. |

After I got measurements on the Primo clutch pack in Chopper Nick's AIH. I was even more pushed away from the idea of the clutch itself being the problem. Went back to some of the other components. Ball ramp good. BUt then once I cleaned it up a bit and at the suggestion of some other guys I went at the throw out bearing. It looked ruff, but didn't realize how bad till we got it apart!!! WOW!!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench021.jpg There is suppose to be very small needle bearings in there http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench022.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench023.jpg That's ok... a $8 part and that is fixed http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench024.jpg Obvoiusly buttoned the primary all back up http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench026.jpg Got the rod back in and the ball ramp back on http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench028.jpg Adjusted it and it seemed better. To me, still not 100%. Will take it for a test ride once we get the ignition replaced. If not the ends of the clutch rods are worn a bit... and this will be the next attack. So the ignition that we were hoping to get in from FedEx today, wasn't in... but no reason we couldn't get a jump start (no pun intended)... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench029.jpg Pull the rear wheel http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench031.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench032.jpg Rear axle and spacers... always worth noting their correct position (also note the lack of dirt and sand on the lift) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench033.jpg Removed the rear wheel to gain access to where AIH put the ignition. Yep on the front of the rear splash gaurd. Just out of reach of getting to it from above the tranny. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench035.jpg $138 + S&H for this thing http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench038.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench039.jpg But damn... look at all the dirt and sand that came out from behind the ignition... no wonder it went to shit, cause you know water took it up there!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench044.jpg All ready for the new ignition and more miles http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench041.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lWrench042.jpg |
I can't believe that owner won't throw a few bucks at that bike to get it going... shit it's just a couple fluids and a couple 20 dollar ebay specials... what a waste. Maybe you should buy it from him for a fair price minus your labor/time GM ;)
And SHIT that bearing was FUCKED!!! :panic: |
I thought about that idea CEO... but not sure I want to deal with it... and lord knows since the bike is some family passed item, where the title is.
|
not to knock the honda-but after the kawi and now the chop....u do not want that honda even if it was free...no enjoyment to come from it....unless u blow it up

i could see u on a cafe'ed or streetfightered cb750 or kz1000/750, but those are older than this bike. but those shitty carbs, weak ass engine, not worth the money u would put in it to make sure it never stops on u. |
Quote:
|
The honest truth on that particular bike is it needs a new set of carbs or at least a carb rebuild kit, new front calipers and maybe some new brake pads. That is just at first glance without riding it or truely getting into it. For me to even consider riding it anywhere.
|
I'm tellin ya... the variety is increasing or just another way to show how good it is to have the 4' x 10' steel work bench.
The next door neighbor's kid's b-day present for this weekend. An electric powered yamaha rhino. Its way cool as far as kid toys go. We put it together and storing it over here till this weekend for the party. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...amRhino002.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...amRhino001.jpg Even covered it up so the kid don't see it when my garage door is open http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...amRhino004.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...amRhino003.jpg |
Be honest GM... sometimes you just put shit on that lift, just for the sake of putting shit on the lift. I'm jealous.
|
Shit... its just a huge ass work bench when there isn't a bike on it. Plus if you look at the garage with the 2-3 bikes on the rst of the floor there isn't much more room so yes... everything goes on the lift.
|
Had Sgt's Honda Shadow back up on the lift. Needed the anti-freeze changed out, clutch adjusted, and new motor oil. Nothing too bad.
Strip it down... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Fluids001.jpg Pull the side cover to full clutch adjustment http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Fluids002.jpg Drained the anti-freeze, flushed it all out with distilled water (twice), letting it cool down each time before refilling. Then put in Engine Ice over regular green. Should be a nice improvement. Also, some new Amsoil and a new oil filter. The reason why we had to pull the tank is to get to the damn rad cap!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../Fluids005.jpg (normally a plastic cover over it that was removed in this pic) Then we found his "rattle" was really his baffle was broken on both mount! But he called V&H and after I sent them the pics they warrentied it and sending replacement. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...HBaffle003.jpg Then while that was on there for a day or so while he picked up his fluids and such... had a buddy come over to do a last min oil change and fix his tranny nut coming loose. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Primary006.jpg The goods http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Primary010.jpg Got to pull the chin spoiler to get at the oil filter and set my special oil filter drain pan in there. Plus he whacked something with it and we needed to "tweak" the bracket back into place. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Primary008.jpg Pulled the outer primary. Yep... that loose tranny nut and therefore the walking clutch basket... yeah... it might make some noise when it does this shit!!!! Ya know... even though that Dave guy is a carrot snapper he's still a good bud. So I'll forgive the carrot offenses and he can get in some lift time.
He shipped me a box of his oils, and other various mods he wanted to get install. He put in some more carrots even after I told him my eye sight was fine... We got the K9 on the lift ready for Sunday's all day wrenchin http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...e/SSPX0040.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...e/SSPX0039.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...e/SSPX0031.jpg So from the continuation from Sat night we got his K&N cleaned and then re-oiled. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay006.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay007.jpg Then we pulled the plugs to drain the oil from the oil bag and primary.., Pulled the inspection cover on the primary... checked the chain and it was good (by feel only thru that stupid small hole). But wanted to double check and make sure sense he has never saw the inside of his primary. Plus check that DREADED tranny input nut. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay001.jpg We decide to check the tranny nut, just as I did last weekend on T-Mack's mstiff. Loosen the clutch freeplay, loosen the clutch rod adjustment, pull the diaphram spring.. So I get my 30mm for the nut... the big bar... have dave grab the rear brake... I put the wrench on it... lay my hand on it and it spins... HAND FUCKIN TIGHT!! WTF!!! Another bad dog tranny nut!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay002.jpg Clean the threads, blow them dry and to remove any debris... red loctite the crap out of the nut... get the torque wrench...grab the rear brake dave... HEEVE N HOE... 100 ft lbs BITCH http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay003.jpg Put it back together, and get ready for some more.. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay005.jpg Dave adds the motor oil and primary oil http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay004.jpg Hook up the scavenger and run out a quart of garbage oil from the oil lines and case http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay008.jpg Clean up the K&P filter... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay009.jpg BAM... that service is D.O.N.E. Onwards and upwards... We do my newest mod, which is to double nut the exhaust flange bolts for added security that you won't loose one http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay035.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay037.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay038.jpg Then I remember that I heard a noise coming from Dave's bike yesterday. It sounded like a loose and rattling exhaust baffle... so I look up... and looksy at what I see http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay010.jpg Broken baffle, the only thing holding it in, was what was left of the bolt, and the only thing holding the bolt in was the heat shield keeping it from backing out... Not a bad call by me from just a sound... so we got some new hardware from my parts bin... and new bolt, some washers and a nylon lock nut http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay013.jpg BAM http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay017.jpg Put the heat shield back on.. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay019.jpg |
More projects...
Waterproofing... Pulled the front LEDs http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay020.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay022.jpg Pulled the plate apart and preped it for waterproofing http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay024.jpg Yanked the rear LEDs http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay026.jpg Sprayed them all with the silicone board sealant http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay028.jpg Attacked the plate frame for the vertical flaw. The wire channel can and does collect water. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay030.jpg Drill a hole in the bottom of the channel http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay031.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay032.jpg Then sealed the extra/non-used holes in the backing plate with silicone http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay042.jpg Onward to the connector waterproofing Then we pulled his gas tank... a nice setup these K9's have http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay044.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay045.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay046.jpg Protect the paint http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay049.jpg OFF http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay050.jpg The BDM way http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay051.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay053.jpg Found some frame damage that the BDM dealer tech had replaced the tank bushings but obviously didn't do anything about this http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay052.jpg So we covered it and then taped over it... will need to possible paint it the next time we pull the tank. Our waterproofed way http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay055.jpg Don't forget some of the hidden ones under the side covers http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay054.jpg |
Then with the tank off, got ready to install a pingle fuel filter
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay057.jpg Make the cut, using the dremel to cut the braided and the knife to cut the rubber http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay058.jpg Nice deal http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay059.jpg Some BLING BLING courtsey of Low Down Chop Shop http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay061.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay062.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay064.jpg Brinks came out to play... then wifey dropped some food for the boy... dig in! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay065.jpg Then we installed his Cruise Mate for some added highway comfort http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay067.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../BigDay068.jpg It was cool to be wrenchin all day, riding may be better, but you got to take care of your buds. Looks like neighbor Tom with his Ultra Classic and Seatmaker's Ridgeback are next on the agenda... |

Well neighbor came over today with his black cherry pearl 2002 HD Ultra Classic.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar004.jpg He just got the paint job done... to include this sweet subtle airbrushing http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar002.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar003.jpg But to install this nice LED lighted trim on the front fairing. The universal wiring harness was complicated till I cut it open to aid in figuring it out. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar005.jpg Off with the fairing... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar006.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar007.jpg After some time temp wiring it, getting it straightened out, shrink wrap the wiring, then bolted up... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar008.jpg It looks great and really trims out the fairing to windshield area. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar009.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar010.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar011.jpg Plus the outer LEDs blink with the turn signals. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ightBar012.jpg Was easy to do but ensuring the wiring was correcy thru every step made it time consuming... |

Going to paste over my post on today's wrenching day....
Can't believe I'm first back to the thread.... Well we had our wrench day. I got mine and wife's bikes out of the garage and ready for the boys. It didn't turn out to be much more than wrenching, the weather was dull and shitty but it was at least dry so guys started to roll in... Chopper Dave was first on the scene http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708001.jpg So we got him up on the lift and started into his shifter linkage http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708002.jpg The differences are more than just style... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708003.jpg Once we got the new heims on the linkage and mocked it up... BIG PROBLEM. The new hotness hits the jug fins. Try to find an offset, we had one from an old shifter in my spare parts... but need a longer bolt for the tranny arm... well off goes Dave and Uma in the SS to the hardware store and to pick up some beer... Meantime while this is going down... we hear a pack of dogs coming... Big House, Big Al, Seatmaker, and Mudslinger show up... man o man you could hear them coming!!! Big House goes straight to work on Big Al's new HID kit http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708004.jpg Gut da bitch http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708005.jpg I think Big House has done this a few times.... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708006a.jpg Then Cutter and Kam show up... start checking out what's going on Big Al, Seatmaker (standing), Big House (working), Mudslinger, Cutter http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708007a.jpg Out front it was an array of bikes... House, Mine, Uma http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708008a.jpg Mud, Kam, Cutter, Seatmakers (ready for its lift time) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708009.jpg Then Mad Dog (from New York) shows up. He was un-sure if he was going to, but this morning decided to make the trip. He was camping over in Canada and rode the extra 1.5 hr to come over and hang out. I give him BIG props for the ride and effort. It was good to meet him, and I'm sorry I wasn't more hospitable due to being busy with the wrenchin. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708012a.jpg So I got Dave's lower wiring harness (only a few connectors) shrink wrapped, also pulled his gas tank again to get his speedo off, shrank wrap those 2 connectors, tek sealant sprayed the back of the tach, and re-assembled it all. Just to clear him off the lift so we could get Seatmaker up... we moved his aside till we figured out the shifter linkage. Got Seatmakers Ridgeback up... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708011.jpg And here's why... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708013.jpg Nice hole from a sissy bar bolt, and it also fucked up the belt. So within a matter of a few mins, Seat, Dave, and House got the rear wheel off. Kam and I get the exhaust off, the clutch rod out, and the front pulley cover off. Then we get the ball ramp removed, and clutch cable out of the cover. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708015.jpg During this process I was injured. The damn dog must have liked its scrapes and scars... I started to bleed out... damn... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708017.jpg Here's the cultrip to the pain for Seat and now for me... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708016.jpg But after I bandaged up my vageen I pressed on.. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708018.jpg I think while I was busy some of the other guys were bored or somin... who knows... mud, seat, cutty, mad dog http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708019.jpg After Kam and I get the clutch cable threaded back into the cover (what a fuckin bitch). I get the ball ramp greased and re-installed and the cable hooked up. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708020.jpg Slide the new belt on http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708021.jpg |
In the meantime, Mud and Cutty go to the hardware and HD to find Dave a new bolt for his shifter linkage. Mud knows his way around and Cutter wants to ride. Big Al's HID install is long SINCE done as you can see here with Kam walking around
Mad Dog's HD, Big Al, House, me, uma http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708022a.jpg Mad Dog's HD, Big Al, Kam (red), Mud, Cutter (who just returned) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708024a.jpg More shots of the bikes out front and you should know who's who by now http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708025a.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708026.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708027a.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708028a.jpg And they're still watching... Big Al, Mad Dog, Cutter, Kam, Mud, Dave http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...092708029a.jpg You can see here how seatmakers bike looks all rear wheel-less Big House, Seat, Dave http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708030.jpg Just hangin out http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708031.jpg Big Al explainin to these boys how things just are http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708032.jpg Finally gettin somewhere with the new cover http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708033.jpg Clutch rod in and I'm adjusting it http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708034.jpg Hell even Brinks wanted to hang... he's almost a big dog..big puppy for sure! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708035.jpg |
Next thing you know... seatmaker's got a new pulley cover installed, 2 new exhaust gaskets, pipes back on... hell even a new belt and back together!! HOLY SHIT... it almost did it on its own!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708036.jpg New chrome always looks SOOO nice http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708037.jpg And even better when it don't have a hole here http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708038.jpg A few of the guys took off, cause of other engagements, but we kept on wrenchin... Uma picked up some pizza for us boys that were left, we ate a few slices then pressed on. Back to Dave's bike... all they could find in the thread pitch and length was this zinc hex head... it will do for now... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708039.jpg But the linkage still looks SIIICK http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708042.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708041.jpg After we got done with Dave's bike and were done with all them... Mad Dog decided to hit it, somin about a date with the camp ground, a case of beer and a campfire. Can't say I blame the man. Super awesome to meet ya Mad Dog!!! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../092708044.jpg After that, it was just Seat, House, me and Uma. Seat and House adjusted House's final belt tension and we decided to hit up a local bar to watch the end of the UofM game. It was a good day... and I hope everybody ended up ok with their bikes that got worked on. Glad I could help. Everybody else that showed up to help and hang... good to see you. We got a heck of a good group here in Michigan!! Thanks to my wife, for helpin out with store runs, beer run, pizza run, taking pics, and just being ooo soo cool. Good women are hard to find!! And I'm thankfull for having good neighbors... cause you get this many bikes out front... and its not quiet!! |
good god Gman... can't imagine what your neighbors think... (reminds me of that gap video where the cruiser passes the van and goes off the road and the guys says... don't stop they'll kick our asses!)

Last year sometime... worked on a 1982 Nighthawk 650 for a neighbor. just went thru it and cleaned it up a bit, got it running, and worked on the carbs a bit. Plus an oil change http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project003.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project005.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project002.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project010.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project011.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project008.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project014.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project006.jpg Of coarse back in the spring the wife and I got new bikes so those got some work done... Think that about covers most of it. Its been a quiet year really...
I have a 2002 HD Deuce on the lift now that I'm doing a ton of stuff to. Probably my first real paying gig. Going thru the bike a ton and fixing anything I find. Its being done for a friend who's fixing up her uncles bike while he's overseas in the military. Dont have any pics uploaded yet... |
Man, you are always elbows deep when it comes to bikes. You should think about opening up a side business. You certainly got your moneys worth out of that lift.
|
That Rebel is the 2nd time I've noticed the cupcake pan.
Are you using it to stash and seperate bolts or are you just ready to bake at a moment's notice? |

Yeah I hear ya Rider. When you going to ge a real bike and come over?
Thanks Z06 |
May not be for a while. My in-laws just gave me a boat so that will keep me busy during riding season. Michelle's grandfather died a month or so ago so her parents got a ton of money and bought themselves a new boat. So I got a 20 year old hand me down ski boat out of the deal. It was free so I can't complain.
If you are ever interested in wrenching on boats though, your always welcome over here. |
Well I'll working on a Ford 302 this winter in my garage... so I'll be doing that v8 rebuild. It will be for the BIL's mustang.
|
Ok so now on the lift, is a 2002 HD Softail Deuce.
its been rode hard and put away wet several times. Despite its ruff exterior its still a solid running bike. Rides smooth and likes the right grip twisted. Here's how it came to the garage... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce001.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce003.jpg Rusted heat shields from dragging them (bikes from Fort Brag area) http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce004.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce005.jpg Bald rear tire http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce006.jpg Wonder why? Trans oil was in good shape
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce023.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce024.jpg Engine oil not so much http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce025.jpg I also, lubed and adjusted all the cables, lubed up the kickstand which was sticking, washed the bike between rear wheel and oil change, obviously put rear belt deflection to spec when installing rear wheel, checking primary chain, replacing the spark plugs and dielectric both ends of both plug wires... but we continue As previously shown the exhaust heat shields were BEAT. I removed them http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce033.jpg So I sanded them a bit... http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce030.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce031.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce032.jpg Just to realize that was going to cut it and took a sandpaper wheel to them to remove the stuburn rust. Got it all off and used some VHT ceramic on them http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce034.jpg About 70% of the tips chrome flaked off so I decided that would go black as well. The bolt on the bottom was ground down so instead of drilling it out and making a larger job of it, simply taped off and used the same ceramic spray http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce035.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce036.jpg More coats http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce037.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce038.jpg in the meantime I worked on the shifter assembly of the forward control. it was super sloppy and floppy. Disassembled it http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce039.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce042.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce040.jpg pressed in the new bearings http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce041.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce045.jpg And you wouldn't believe it... put it back together and its solid and smooth |
Finished up the ceramic spray on the heat shields and put it all back together... WOW it turned out great.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce048.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce046.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce049.jpg I think the black tip looks fantastic on the end http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce050.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...lsDeuce047.jpg Still to come... I have to pull the dashboard, speedo, gas tank, petcock, and gas gauge. Need to clean the petcock and figure out why the speedo and gas gauge aren't working. |
Nice job, Chris! You know what I envy most about you? Your ability to stop what you are doing to take pics!!! I'm serious! You and CEO... I've done some work to my bike, like replacing the rear shock for example and I wish that I had taken pics like you to show other people how it's done. Dammit, that's it! I'm changing my front tire this weekend and I'm going to take pics of the steps... Besides, I just got my Mojo Blocks which "supposedly" makes my $80 Harbor Freight kit as safe as a No-Mar rig!!! We'll see!

Great pics! Obviously this bike had been seriously neglected.
