Did a Dyno Run
At a local bike night a local motorcycle shop brings out a portable dyno. They do Dyno runs for $20 or $35 with a Gas Analysis. I decided to do the Dyno run on my bike. It's a 1996 Honda CBR600 F3 with 34,000+ miles on it. Also it's all I could afford so wah.
I was a little disappointed but not surpised. I had peak hp at 13,003RPMs with 77.75bhp. I got peak torque at 11,004 with 34.38ft/lbs. I was hoping for mid 80s(From a Factory Pro dyno) but I'm running way too rich. Need to adjust my needles or just get a port and polish to let more airflow in. But I'm not concerned about it now. Once I get my Ignition Advancer in it should help a little. I have video of the run but haven't uploaded it yet. I will later. HP is just a function of torque . Torque is measured, HP is calculated. If you want more HP, rev the bike out higher. HP = (Torque x RPM) divided by 5252

Learn something everyday. But my bike only redlines at 13.5k which they ran it to.

Not bad. I have a Sport Rider magazine where they tested a 1999 F4 and got 88.8HP @ 12,500, and 41.6lb/ft @ 10,000. Your CO is too high, should be 4.0 or below. Could be dirty air filter, stuck choke, leaking float needle/seat, etc. Plus the HC is too high. Could just need new spark plugs.

brand new BMC air filter. Carbs just cleaned 6k ago with new Iridiums.
I talked to the guy who works on my bike when I don't (Brian Livengood for those who might know him through racing) do it myself. He said I just need to put some smaller jets in to lean it out. I have Factory Pro needles already. He told me with a Dynotune and changing jets I could get high 80s or low 90s. That's with a Dynojet dyno(What he uses) and mid80s to high80s on a Factory Pro. But paying $200 an hour(Normally $300 for carbed bikes) knowing carbs will have to come on and off which I'm sure is a long process isn't appealing to me. Maybe later on. |
Just remember that a dyno run is done at wide open throttle. I know we like to think we run at WFO all the time, but it's really probably only 1 percent of the time. A better indicator of correct jetting for most of us is reading the plugs. And 6K miles in a plugs life is a lifetime. Plus, when it's running rich, those iridium plugs foul faster than regular plugs.
