My 3 days at the British Grand Prix (F1) [pics] LONG
Wife was over in the UK for business so we thought, go to the British GP. What could go wrong ? :toetap: FIRST-London was torn to bits getting ready for the Olympics. Second: Wimbledon-Really, WTF watches tennis ? Apparently a sh*tload of people. :ack: Rain. Did I say rain? I meant the animals start pairing up amount of rain. So we ordered tickets a couple of months ago and paid to have them mailed to us. They mailed them all the way to ticket recovery at Silverstone. :toetap:So that means I have to go to the track to pick up the tickets.
FRIDAY: 5 hours in traffic getting to the track. I saw Ferrari Man !!! I park in friggen muck to go get the tickets. Slide around and finally get the tickets. Time to leave. Back to the road ? Nope. Head down some friggen cow path. 4 hours later, back at the hotel and a beer. SATURDAY: Rain AGAIN. But wife and I are determined to make qualifying. Nothing is like the scream of a F1 racecar. Looking at the weather, we weren't to excited about Sunday. But, when you fly 7 hours just to go to one event, you go. BTW-The next time someone calls NASCAR fans rednecks, they can't hold a candle to F1 fans. SUNDAY: Weather was hideous leaving the hotel. Wet and cold. We stopped at a convenience store and bought umbrellas. But raceday was AWESOME. Awesome flyovers. No rain and great racing (somewhat). We were sitting in great seats-most of the passing took place at our corner. BTW-Fish and chips SUCK. In fact British food sucks. I was near the theatre district in London and asked if this was a new comedy. |

It's a freakin 7 hour plane ride. Not suggested for a weekend. I did ask where the fireworks were on the 4th. SOB said the rain put them out but they have a celebration for getting rid of us.

Bah, 7 is a piece of cake. Anything over 10-12 starts to suck real quick though. I'm planning to do one of the Moto GP races in Spain over a weekend trip. Either Valencia at the end of this year or Jerez/Catalunya next spring. Depends on what happens with the GP calendar next year. I heard there is only going to be 3 adriatic races next year. Estoril will be dropped and the economy cant hold 4 Spanish races.

Not really, lol apparently they were retired in the late eighties and only one is still in flying condition AND it fod'ed two of its engines at the start of the year. Miracle its up at all. I'm seriously jealous of the opportunity to see one fly.

British food is horrible. It's awful. I'm convinced it's why they drink a lot. Well, that and the rain. It's just a depressed society.
Glad the rain stopped for the race. All told, it seems like you had a great trip.

Great until I pulled into a gas station. $8 a gallon ! I've never seen so many speed cameras in my life. They have "averaging" cameras that keep you from speeding up after passing one. We gotta stop those from coming here.
