Drag Racing my bike - Video
A buddy and I decided to go to teh Atlanta Dragway and run our bikes. I was on my CBR600f3 and my buddy on a SV1000n. I never dragged the bike before and infact I don't ever recall really ever trying to launch my bike from a stop before this. Basically I sucked, but it was fun as hell. Perfect cool night and very few racers. 5-6 bikes total and I was often able to finish my race, loop around and within 2-3minutes be back at the line.
Fastest I got was about 12.20. My buddy got one in mid 11s but stayed in low 12s. Some fucker was on a GSXR1000 with nitrous and it ran in the 8s (which you could tell from my video since I had plenty of time to check out his time. Video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMLvZqS_96g

Holy crap. Your opponent looked like he was shot out of a cannon at 2:35.
You looked pretty smooth.

He pretty much was. It was a GSXR1000 with I'm guessing nitrous. On that run I saw his time, reaction, and MPH before I got to the finish line.

I have had a blast dragging the few times I have gone. Bracket racing is actually easier on a stock bike. I proved that winning first both times I went on my GSXr750 even though I was running against all slammed stretched 1000's busa's and a ZX14.
It does take a lot of practice launching. The run were I learned to drag my clutch all the way through 1st gear with the throttle pinned is the run my times dropped A LOT.

Glad you had a good time, once people try it most like it and begin to understand the madness....
drag racing is a skill, and an underrated one until someone tries it. The uninitiated seems to think you just line up and assualt the throttle-NOT..... While I prefer curvy roads over the strip any day, I still like to hit the strip to keep what little skills I have sharp. Guess I need to head over and run the new busa a few times soon. |
