My guess us that the idea, while fanciful and completely out there is somewhat based on reality. Especially t the part that status the military its looking for a wider vision out of the current night vision devices, it wouldn't surprise me if there were night vision sun glasses gliding around,

Ya know I wonder how much natural night vision would improve if you forced the pupils open chemically? Human eyes are poorly structured for low light situations but getting the maximum amount of light possible in can't hurt.
