Before you come unglued, call the clerk's office and see if you can get your service moved to another term of court. The number should be on your jury summons. Let 'em know you're not attempting to evade serving, just need a break on the date. Most of the time they're pretty flexible.

If you ask nicely, they will probably help you by rescheduling you.

If you come across as an asshole, they 'll do their best to make sure you get picked for a 6 month long murder trial

I got out of jury duty completely because I had a prior engagement. Just call them, fyi they may have you send in a letter as well, I had to.

I dream of getting to sit in on a good trial but they'd likely hand me my walking papers, as soon as they found out I moderate a Law and Highway Traffic Act forum

the case I got called for was a motorcycle vs car accident. So as a motorcyclist and well as an ER PA they would have tossed me quickly. I talked to one of the lawyers afterwards and he so much as said neither side would want me on a jury

LOL, yeah if you have knowledge, they don't want you. I got tossed from a railroad case because I knew too much about safety procedure and calibrating and maintaining tools properly.

I am still pissed I missed out on the Sarah Palin Internet Trial. I was on federal court pool for that one but didn't get picked.
