Ran into a good sized garter snake on Saturday while mowing the yard. Probably 'bout eighteen inches long. He was trying to get away from the mower so I stopped and let him go under the fence into the back yard. Didn't seen him when I mowed the back yard so I guess he found a good place to hide.

I don't mind the little brown snakes and the garter snakes since they help keep by the bugs down. It's the copperheads and water mocassins that I can do without. Haven't found many, but keep the hoe handy on the back porch just in case.

The first two snakes we saw in our yard a few years ago...my wife caught them and then came in the house to tell me about them so I could come down and check them out. We turned them loose...they were harmless.

Like I posted though...laying up under a car at night and one slithers up that is bigger and a different type than what I had seen before...yep I'd be doing my best to get out from under there until I could tell what kind it is...that's for sure !!

Like I said in the first post - I don't mind them as long as they aren't poisonous and don't bother me. But slithering into my garage is an act of snake suicide.
