Toyota and Honda do the same thing here in order to dodge tariffs and have a more acceptable public image. It's great for us since it creates jobs and tax revenue, However alot of corporate profit still goes out of country.
US firms could do the same for other countries but need to remember our consumers can't buy the products if they dont have jobs...

yes they do BUT do they prance around saying we're the great Japanese company, union labor, founded in Japan etc? no they don't. they are a business plain and simple.

Harley makes a great deal of it's "image" off "we're the great American co. We were founded in a shed" etc.

yes it's a global market place but I think this move will hurt HD. Only because of their own prancing around about foreign companies. you can't talk about other foreign companies when you suddenly become one.

True to a point, but ultimately unless Harley were to send so much of their production overseas it became general knowledge it isn't going to matter much. Look at how many Harley buyers are still blissfully unaware that some of the major assemblies on their bikes are sourced from outside the country as well as much of the HD clothing and accessories they buy. The "Screw that rice crap" crowd isn't going to notice unless/until it is shoved in their face by HD.

very true. funny how they flock in to buy the latest fashions all made in in china/taiwan/korea or wherever and then talk smack about Honda on the way out. Just before they get in their Lexus to drive home. LOL
