that's why i avoid them. when i was in college...the infinite wisdom that was the local government of Gainesville, FL decided to spruce up the city and paint the all the crosswalks with a fake brick pattern, well needless to say many of my friends went down when making left turns through them and i've had my fair share of close calls...since then i avoid all painted surfaces like the plague

Nothing ritual wise. I go over it mechanically right after I start it, verify brake lights, turnsignals, horn work. Brakes I've checked as I pull it out of the shed.

I'll actually walk around the bike to do it too...

I do the same thing while riding as a passenger. I think most people get on the left because that is the same side the rider mounts from due to the kickstand. You arent' that strange...ok well at least not because of this.

Clean my helmet, then clean my bike, then check tire pressure, then meditate for a little while. Remember to wear my jacket (every time I've wrecked I wasn't wearing my jacket). Then go to the gas station and fill up with 93 (or 100) octane. Buy a banana and a bottle of gatorade. The head to the meeting spot and eat my banana and drink my gatorade while waiting for everyone else to show up.

It's pretty much turned into a ritual. But this only applies to Sundays (aside from the jacket) and trackdays.
