Dunno what the accident rate is, but I can guarantee that sleeping on a portaledge is one of the least risky parts of big wall climbing.

I wish I could remember where I read it, but some crazy dudes in the 70s or 80s used to make it a matter of pride to hang their ledge from the sketchiest anchor possible. Of course, their own harness was roped into a bombproof anchor (and the ledge had a backup with a bunch of slack), but apparently it was still quite a wakeup call if the main ledge anchor let go in the middle of the night.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Shocked at the number of females in the pictures too; that may be worth as many hot points as when they throw on a set of leathers and kick ass on the track.
