NEW HARTFORD — A Clinton woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday night, New Hartford police said.

Birgit Aiello, 42, required a partial leg amputation due to the serious injuries she received in the accident, which happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Commercial Drive near Panera Bread, police said.

She was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and admitted to the hospital's Intensive Car Unit in critical condition, police said.

Aiello was westbound on a motorcycle when she was struck with a car pulling out of Panera Bread, police said. That vehicle was driveen by Kathleen Seiselmyer, 60, of Cassville.

The intersection at which the accident occurred is controlled by a stop sign, police said.

Seiselmyer was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.

What kills me is that this area is a very popular one for riding around here so it's not like she'd never seen a bike there before.
