Default The sort of thing that gives you hope

Sometimes there IS a cop around, when you need him. Other stories that I've read indicate that the pickup driver is an illegal. It was also a motorcycle, not a bicycle.

Officer witnesses cycle forced from highway in road rage incident

Staff writer

A Crossville Police officer on routine patrol witnessed an act of road rage when the driver of a pickup truck swerved toward a motorcycle, causing the cyclist to lose control of the motor bike.

Antonio Villegas, 29, 332 W. Fourth St., Cookeville, was charged with aggravated assault and no driver's license following the June 26 incident, according to Ptl. Jon Tollett's report.

In addition, Villegas told the officer that he was in the country illegally and did not have documentation of his right to be in the country.

Tollett wrote in his report he was traveling on N. Main St. when he observed a black 1997 Ford pickup truck speeding and then merging into the left lane, swerving toward a motorcycle.

That action caused the cyclist to to run off the roadway. The driver was stopped and asked why he was driving as was witnessed and the pickup truck driver replied that the cyclist "flipped him off and made him mad."

At that point Villegas was taken into custody and jailed at the Justice Center.
