Default Early b-day present

You know, every once in a while someone really exceeds anything you could have expected where gift giving is concerned.
This time it was my dad.

Frickin'... awesome... Thanks Dad.

Now I just have to save up for a decent optic and figure out a grain weight that works well with a 1 in 8" barrel, and hopefully some decent factory ammo in said weight which won't break my budget.

Yeah, it's a .223
Actually it has the 'Wylde' chamber
Quote:
The .223 Wylde chamber was designed as a match chambering for semi-automatic rifles. It will accomodate both .223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO ammunition. It is relieved in the case body to aid in extraction and features a shorter throat for improved accuracy.
Oh, and jt, my Dad got the Bushmaster Predator for himself. He was going to get me one too, but the place he got his was out so he opted for the RRA.
I told him it was just as well. Were I buying for myself I would have gone with the RRA anyway.

I'd go with a 60gr BTHP(Boat Tail Hollow Point). You could really do a number on some coyote with that thing. If you plan on keeping the hides of whatever you shoot, I'd keep the grains fairly low. If you are concerned with excessive hide damage from the HP, you could use a plain FMJ.

I imagine she'll mostly be a paper puncher, and any living target I shoot I'd be more concerned about a clean kill and good knockdown.
I'm actually reading that the faster twist still does ok with the more standard 55 grain bullets, but can spin the heavier weights as well.

Ah well, I'll just buy a few boxes here and there and see what works.
I still don't have room to set up a proper loading bench so handloading isn't going to happen for a while longer.
