PowerPoint's biggest downfall is the people that use it. It can be a great tool for giving a speech, but most people use it as a crutch and read directly from it rather than using it to convey talking points. It also works better with certain audiences (upper management) than it does with individual contributors.
On my last trip to China I opened my 2-day meeting agenda with one simple statement: "I didn't bring a single PowerPoint presentation with me". You'd think I promised them I'd make the government stop blocking access to porn online. |

It's all about the presentation. Aren't you (of all people) in marketing who plays off of this shit?

This is why engineers hate marketing/sales. And why sales loves PPT- no details required. Everything looks just fucking wonderful until you actually try to make it work.

“When we understand that slide, we’ll have won the war,” . That's fucking awesome.
I hate Power Point with a passion. I had a speech/communications class and all they did was tell us how to BS on a powerpoint to impress people. Before that class I really had no opinion of them. If I was a company CEO and someone came in with a powerpoint I'd fire them on a spot. I'm a CEO and as far as I'm concerned I have 39 hours in a work day and all day to listen to boring dribble that will help my company. I remember writing excellent reports and research but wasting a ton of time on a power point when I could have been retrieving more information.

This is absolutely true. I spent two weeks on a 20 minute PP not too long ago because the bigwigs in DC asked for it.

Were still on XP and IE 6. Its embarrassing when every site you go to has a message at the top of the page saying that your current web browser is a piece of garbage.
