very few tracks in texas are full 1/4's. when i was stationed there we used to hit up temple/academy (aka "the river") every week. place was tiny and dangerous as hell but it made for some exciting spectacles
this vid gives the general layout of the place, you can literally stand and watch from the burnout box. always used to go home with the legs of my jeans literally black with rubber, can't get away with that at Atco or E-town

You can run 1/4 at Temple.
Temple is by far the scariest strip I've seen. I prefer SAR too because, ya know, I can actually see in the shut down area. 1/8 mile is so challenging because you have no time to catch up if you fudge your launch. I wouldn't bother with a street bike in 1/8 mile, but that's just me. |

TAD usually runs full 1/4, and to expand on what heather said on the shutdown area, it curves left a couple feet past the traps. Saw a little girl flip a jr dragster on that part once. There's also a dip in the left lane just past the sixty that more than a few cars have gotten squirrely on and ate a guardrail

Did my ER-6n today. Not enough cars so we did a Dash for the Cash. I won against a hot rod Vega, but there was only one pass each and I guess they took the best time. Some Mopar won.
Having trouble getting my reaction time under 1 sec. My last trail run, I hit .64 sec, but my race run it went back up to 1 sec. My fastest was 84mph. Between the two bikes. The VFR is faster, but I can't launch because of the clutch. The ER-6N is slower, but I can launch faster and do a burnout to heat the tire. Next year I may get another rear wheel for the ER and put a slick on it. |
