The policy toward homosexuality in the military doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but changing the policy guarantees the religious right will be fired up and out in force for the midterm elections.

As for his "new fucking ideas", most of what he is doing follows what Roosevelt laid out in the 1930s. It isn't exactly new.
I dont feel the 'New Deal' woulda worked for Roosevelt either without WW2...

The data I have seen shows unemployment 8 years after Roosevelt took office at greater than 14%. Like you I suspect WW2, and the necessity of having well over 10% of the population employed in the military, did more to correct the problem than the New Deal ever did.

Nothing like fighting for your existence to stir up a little bi partisan support, LOL.

Roosevelt took office in 1933

Here are the unemployment numbers:
1920 5.2 %
1928 4.2
1930 8.7
1932 23.6
1933 --------------------- Roosevelt takes office (New Deal initiative begin)
1934 21.7
1936 16.9
1937 ---------------------- Recession of 1937 (gov spending rolled back, union nonsense
1938 19.0
1939 --------------------- War breaks out in Europe and the US ramps up
1940 14.6
1942 4.7%
1944 1.2

I don't know about you, but it looks to me like unemployment numbers drop significantly after Roosevelt takes office, going from an average of 24% ....
never mind you get the point

Unemployment numbers did drop, but they still sucked. Breaking through 15% unemployment (a level that would be viewed as catastrophic today) after 8 years of social engineering isn't exactly something to brag about. The fact that 8 years of The New Deal wasn't able to accomplish what WW2 did in 3 years isn't really a strong argument. I don't really get your point.
