1. that's it's name Army Combat Uniform 2. It's what I will end up wearing in combat. Not saying it works, not saying it's good, but it's what they give us, and what we have to deal with. Quote:
Though they do blend in well in a stubble field with a bit of regrowth. Wore them out hunting dove and my buddies said I disappeared But yea, velcro does not = tactical |

I liked 'em. The summers were more durable than the winters, and the winters were heavy and didn't breath well. The DCU's were great overall ACU's suck. velcro sticks to EVERYTHING! and the material is not nearly as durable as it needs to be for a daily wear uniform |

That pic still cracks me up Carolina!! Take the sofa into combat with you for cover!!
Yeah, when the AF was talking about putting blue in the new uniform... Damn asshat general wanting the AF to "stand out", in combat, sheesh! I got out before the new choice started getting to Reserve units so I didn't get to try them. I always wore the 100% cotton summer ripstop BDU's, couldn't stand the poly/cotton summer or winter weight. |

If we're talking utility uniforms, the Air Force's ABU is absolute garbage. I'm an aircraft mechanic and that retarded uniform gets nasty filthy too damn fast and will not come clean and can't even stand up to my washing machine. All the AF did was take the BDU, change the color and add some stupid ass pockets. "Oh, a pen pocket on your sleeve, wow." Seriously, if you work at a desk, get a fucking pen holder. People that need to carry pens of multiple colors, pencils, grease pens, and sharpies don't wear their fucking shirts all the damn time. And when we do wear our tops, we've got the coat over top 'cause of the wind/cold/rain/snow. The ABU is a garbage ass uniform, at least from a mechanic's point of view and the Army's ACU doesn't seem to be much better.

When the Marines started talking uniform change back in the late 90's, all I could think was "Why? Buy me a fucking radio that works and keep the goddamn woodland cammies." I will say that woodland MARPAT blends in better with most forest environments, but hardly enough to justify all the money they sank into development. The Navy is really pissing me off. They've spent tens of thousands if not more, and they've ended up with blue camouflage utilities and service uniforms that are bad copies of the Marines. Why even bother with all the "field testing?" Three out of four services have used BDU style utilities in every task imaginable for over a decade, but that's not enough? We needed a couple dozen sailors to tell us "Yep, they cover our shame alright, walking or behind a desk."
Not to mention, and I can't stress this enough, blue camouflage does not blend in with anything. There was a time when the mention of blue camouflage would have gotten you laughed out of the room. Apparently that time has passed in Millington.
