Oh lord, that's just tragic and heads are gonna roll on this one ladies and gentlemen! That's bad maintenance without a doubt and I'm betting some bad "cost cutting" descisions on the part of the hospital administration. Of course, the woman is probably some "skell" dirtbag that'll milk this "minor incident" for all it's worth, right?

One reason I don't stick anything in the doors way to close. All is takes is one of the safety systems to malfunction and you're fucked.

Elevator 101. You have 2 door safeties that have to make before the elevator can leave the floor. Inner door switch and outer door. There should also be a set of electronic "eyes" that should automatically open the doors if an obstruction is in the path. There is a feature called nudging that basically cuts out the eyes and slowly closes the inner doors to kind of force moos to quit blocking the doors. After a period of time, the doors should open fully and take the elevator out of service if something is blocking the doors.
My 2 cents, a maintenance person troubleshooting an elevator problem, jumped the door safeties out. Common in our trade. At our facility we have a switch that we use that cuts the safety circuit out however it can only be used on inspection speed (very slow). There are a lot of fail safes on an elevator, you really have to work hard to bypass all of them. |

Hope your hospital has good insurance there brah! Thats a bit more severe than malpractice I think... 'specially if shit was tampered with by maintenance.
