If you check driving records, my wife is a MUCH safer driver than I am. But if we're in a situation that requires evasive maneuvers or regaining control of the car once it's in a skid, I know we'd both rather have me at the controls.

Safer doesn't always mean better.

My wife is a REALLY safe driver. She obeys speed limits and takes it nice and easy.
She has also totalled every car she's owned.

Honestly, if a study sponsored by the auto insurance industry told me that the sky was blue, I'd have to double-check it with my own eyes to make sure they weren't lying.

So is it better to crash while protecting your position and trying not to overdirve your equipment or is it better to crash while trying to race to the front? Will your sponsors care?

Personally I would rather crash pushing the limits and my luck than just minding my own business and getting run over.

As for better driver, that question is not really a good one because of the lack of opportunity that women have in the world of motorsports. They either get a primrose path if they are pretty enough (danica) even if they aren't a top tier driver or they get run out of the sport before they had their chance. It's not really a fair debate to answer, but as of now the only ones with top tier training and practice are men.
