The thing about Chicago suburbs is that a lot of the "sprawl" is lame 70s/80s/90s construction with generic vinyl siding, and every home looks the same. I would try for a brick home closer to the city in one of the older, more established suburbs.

agree. and I can say if you live in Tenn and work with a big mutha from Louisiana don't call him coonass no matter how much his friends tell you he likes to be called that. I spent two weeks thinking he was going to kill me in a very painful manner. LOL

I am from Louisiana, I know better than that. LOL

Coonass use to be a very very derogatory word to the coonasses. It was treated like nigger to black people. People would get killed over that shit. Now they have slowly let it become a more commonly accepted word like redneck.

You really don't get in trouble for it anymore except from the old tymers.

yep this was roughly 19 years ago and he wasn't accepting of it in anyway especially from a damn yankee who moved to Tenn.

funny after a couple weeks we actually got along "alright" (which is to say I survived) but it was a rough couple weeks. he ran the tool trailer on the pipeline I worked on and was not afraid to throw tools at you if you asked for something. all in all he was a good shit but kind of scary to everyone. I figured out the reason they did it was to focus his attention on me and not them LOL

If you move to Chicago, don't buy any bikes or cars from Jason Haubner at either the Chicago Toy Store (4507 Ray Street, Crystal Lake, IL 60012) or Chicago Motor Cars (27W261 North Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185).

Have to throw this down wherever I see "Chicago" mentioned.

Fuckin Eric...

I've lived in Chicagoland for 22 years...and visit a few times a year. Here is my opinion...

1. The people are generally pretty cool in Chicago. Laid back. Chicks are not stuck up either.
2. The bars are good, esp. the downtown.
3. Downtown is prolly one of the best cities in the U.S. There is alot to do.
4. Housing is reasonable, but the property taxes are pretty high.
5. Pretty conservative.
6. Weather sucks, but it isn't gloomy like Michigan. Snows alot in Jan and Feb.
7. Roads are flat and cars don't like bikes. When I visit there and take the bike, I split lanes, but the cars freak out.
8. There are sports nuts here.

You need to define "west suburbs" because that ranges from Joliet in the south to St. Charles in the north and there is 2 hours between the two. Many of the west suburbs are safe, but quite boring IMO though. The problem with living close to the city (unless you are downtown) is that most of it is ghetto (except the northern part). As long as you are 20 or so miles away from the city (unless you like watermelon and bbq chicken), minus due south, you are fine.
