Need some opinions on guns
This is going to be annoying for some, but bear with me.
I'm in the market for a new carry gun. I currently have a Keltec PF9, which I do like, but I'd like to go larger in caliber. Ideally, I'd like to go .45, but I'd consider a .40 if the gun is right. There's a certain criteria that I don't wish to stray too far from, which may make the choices difficult: - The narrower the gun, the better. I've been spoiled by the diminutive size of the Keltec. - Under $700 if possible. - No revolvers. Sorry, not what I'm looking for. I appreciate them for what they are, but it's not what I'm looking to carry. - No Glocks. I have nothing against them. I know they're reliable as shit and there are a buttload of people who swear by them. I loath the grips and have yet to shoot one that doesn't feel wrong in my hands. I'm not a Glock person. - No 9mm. Have one already. Sorry for being a picky asshole about it, but thems the breaks. Guns I've been looking at: - Various compact 1911's (Para Slim Hawg looks nice, though kinda pricey) - EAA Witness P Carry. Haven't seen one in person. Opinions? - Walther PPS - Taurus PT745 - HK P2000 - HK USP 45c Those are a few. I'm open to other suggestions, all opinions, and what have you. Thank you in advance.

Do you drive a truck or an SUV? If so I'd definitely recommend a mounted minigun.

What holster would you recommend for such a selection?

I just use my cock sleeve.
No seriously, I assumed you already had a 1911. If you don't, then the answer is obvious. I personally carry a Taurus 1911...but I like 'em all.

No 1911 yet. I'd love one, I just don't know if I want to carry one. There's a voice in my head (one of many) that says full size 1911 or no 1911. If I got a full size, I don't think I'd carry it. I currently have a Keltec PF9 to carry and an XD45 for home and range shooting.

Hell yes full size. Its a very slender handgun, easy to carry a full size 1911...even in a Texas summer.

The HK USP is probably one of the fattest guns out there, not a good choice if you want thin though they are very nice guns. The USP Compact is a little better but still not really very thin.
Anything that's not a single stack mag will be noticably thicker in the grip, that's what makes the 1911's a good choice. Best thing to do is hold a bunch in a store, find the 2 or 3 you like best, then check out all the reviews on those guns to help with your choice. I presonally am a big fan of the .40cal. They are a heavy hitting round with not a lot more kick than a 9mm in a good quality gun. But they are pretty much all double stack mags and will be thicker than a 1911 model. |
