Colorado cats, you know this road?

If all goes well and I get my reenlistment bonus in February, buy a trailer and take a road trip out there with some guys from Vegas. Anybody around the area that may be interested in meeting up? It won't be for a while, just doing some research for it now.

I've been good. Just got back from a month in the Philippines, it was awesome. I'm gonna shoot for my racing license this year, maybe catch one or two local rounds to get a taste.

In the late 70's I worked in the Idarado Mine. We entered the mine above Ouray, worked under the mountains, and the ore came out to the mill at Telluride. That road you highlighted is the Million Dollar Highway. Spectacular scenery, but usually crowded with RV's and tourists.

On a motorcycle, you have to go to Telluride. It's in a box canyon. A terrific road is from Telluride, down past Ophir, over Lizard Head Pass, down past Rico, down past Stoner, and into Dolores. Light traffic and tons of curves. It's closed in the winter. Check out the old mines at Rico, I did exploration work around that whole area. From Dolores, you can go to Durango and do the whole loop again.

Here's a good route. You can ride it clockwise, or counter clockwise. Durango and Telluride are nice to stay for the nightlife. Ouray has hot springs. On this route, you cross over five passes: Lizard head Pass, Dallas Divide, Red Mountain Pass, Molas Pass, and Coal Bank Pass.

From Durango, if you ride east to Pagosa Springs and take 160 north to South Fork, and then 149 to Creede and Gunnison, you can cross the Continental Divide twice. Plus, you go over Wolf Creek Pass (Continental Divide) which already has almost 200 inches of snow. These two routes are very twisty and are probably the most scenic in Colorado.

Southwest Colorado expects up to four feet of snow from the first storm coming from California, and there's more storms lined up in the Pacific. Pineapple Express FTW, For The Winter, that is.
