Is it a wireless laptop you are using?

My computers will auto-switch to work with either a crossover or regular cable. I doubt the xbox does, but you never know.

Most new routers do autoswitch for a cross over cable so it's not a big deal if you use it. IF you ever want to connect 2 pc's directly to each other, you HAVE to have a cross over.
The standard color sequence left to right is white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue green, white/brown, brown. The crossover end will swap the white/blue and white/green... if they haven't changed the wiring sequences since I did it 10+ yrs ago. That's for a standard CAT5 cable. |

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having odd connection problems with my xbox (360), too.
If I run a cable directly from the xbox to the router, it works just fine. I've also got a cable that plugs into the router on one end, and ends in a wall socket in another room on the other end. When I plug the xbox into that wall socket, I get nothing. My laptop works just fine when plugged into the wall socket. It's weird, I've tried multiple cables of each type (standard and crossover), and nothing seems to make a difference. |
