you have to realize that in this area, many manuf jobs have left. 1700 people going on unemployment would have resulted in almost zero chance of them finding any work. absolutely no chance of a job earning their current salary.
we recently hired 14 manuf people here. entry level, low paying jobs of the 14 12 had college degrees.
those 200 losing their job have some very impressive severance packages

not really, they are building the place in India, it is public knowledge. the question becomes how long before they start trying to secretly build bikes overseas and sell here.

I really think the government should levy higher taxes or tariffs on US companies building elswhere and then selling here. I mean GM, Harley, whomever. Dont provide for our own for corp profits, pay up.... Goes for services too. Tech and consumer help lines could be jobs here in USA as well.

Mudpuppy needs to get out more if he thinks India is the worst place in the world.

I remember hearing about HD starting to distribute in India a while back. I can't see how they'll fit in with the current bikes being sold over there, but it'll be interesting to see.

it's the worst place in the world for a company that touts itself as the last american company standing. as would any other foreign country be. if they want to talk the talk they should walk the walk.

if they want cheaper labor to build their product then send it to idaho or nebraska and see what they'll build it for.
yes they are doing it because the other gov't s tax the crap out of them to import a product. they think more sales if they bypass the tariff and will be able to sell lower. maybe maybe not, how many sales will they lose here because people will see them as just another sellout.
personally I would be more "proud" of them if they stood as the american company that said hey you want our product pay the price.
the bikes sell well in other countries where they are considered a status symbol. it's the cool "western" look of them I guess
