Usually by being some reborn saint or member of an ancient line of demon slayers, without knowing it. Don't suppose that there are any ancient relics that have been handed down from father to son for the past 10,000 years, are there? A family sword over the mantelpiece? PC, I am hell on wheels with a rifle. And I'll probably have to head north, frozen zombies are easier to deal with. You can meet me in Tennessee!

As for demons, you don't have to be a saint or anything. Just a burnout with expensive shirts who smoke rare Chinese cigarettes and hangs out with drunken preists, underage cab drivers, and Djimon Hansou.
