Raw food FTW!! (I put our Pit puppy on raw the day we got him, he's developing very nicely...especially for a dog that was neutered at 2 months old.)

Keep feeding him puppy till at least 1yr old. I recently switched Brinks off the Blue Puppy to Nutro Natural large breed adult (even has a pic of a mastiff on the front). The holistic food was still keeping his poo soft. Now its getting nice and normal and his farts have gone WAY down.

I'd love to tell you when I switched our monsters to big dog food, but I honestly don't remember. We got them 6 yrs ago. If I had to guesstimate, I'd say probably around a year. I do recommend integrating the adult food with the puppy food over a period of time. It doesn't have to be stretched out over months... just gradual enough so that it's not a huge change in the fur-baby diet.

Or... go raw like Kaneman said. He's posted some great info about it around here somewhere

he probably won't gain a lot more weight - but definately more 'bulk' as his chest and legs will still thicken. Boxers dont' stop growing until 2-3 years old. Ours are 65 & 85 pounds each (both male rescues). We feed them Wellness - http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...uct=1291&cat=8

boxers start to fill in after a year. ours is 2 1/2 now and she still eats pup food. tried to switch her and the ratio of adult food mixed in with her puppy food is directly related to how much vomit and diahrea you find in her crate.

she gets a 1/2 can of soft food at night that is adult variety but the hard food is puppy iams. she likes it and she's well muscled and healthy so why mess.

I guess German Shepherds are different. Our Breeder, Vet, and everything I've read says to take them off puppy food around 6 months.

We feed him Royal Canin #24 for German Shepherds. He's a year old and 80lbs.
