You may regret it, but like you said, there's many twisties in TN. You won't need all the 51 power to enjoy the 650, I guess. Throw a GSXR suspension on it and you'll be set.

i like the idea of having the same bike as her so instead of having back up parts for two seperate bikes, one stash will work for both bikes
