Opinions on new TN law?

Makes sense to me...carrying a weapon and embibing alcohol is never a good idea, being allowed to carry a weapon in a place where alcohol is being embibed and doing so yourself is an accident waiting to happen...

lots of locals carry at the gap. Some have had guns pulled on them and just other threats like boar and bear.

If you see me on my bike you'll have seen another one....its usually in the tank bag though.

I am all for this law. We had some nut job a few weeks ago storm into my favorite sports bar/restaurant during Thursday night karioke and shoot the karioke guy cause he was stalking his wife. Both the husband and wife had guns and knew this nut job had a thing for her but due to not being able to carry in the bar, they left them in the car. The husband was killed infront of 50+ people. I would have been there that night if my softball game had not been cancelled due to rain (we head there after softball each week). Very sad and hit so close to home. I feel I have the right to protect myself and that shouldn't end at the door to a restaurant.

Okay but I've seen you drink, so are you willing to basically never take a drink in a bar for the rest of your life or is this going to be another drunk driving situation, that as long as you get away with it, it's okay? (not YOU personally btw) You know the old, "one or two beers won't hurt" type attitude that keeps drunk drivers on the road. Seriously, nothing personal but I see a bunch of people carrying in the bar and still drinking anyway. I mean are the bouncers going to frisk people coming in and mark the people carrying so they can't drink? Are cops going to be waiting at the door at closing time with metal detectors and breath analyzers? I understand that bad things can happen but I'm not sure that things would have improved if there were a bunch of drunks popping off rounds during the incident...

I am not a big drinker at bars so I have no problem drinking my usual diet coke if I'm carrying. I didn't carry in restaurants when that was illegal even though it would have been easy to get away with and I was often told by cops that I should. I won't drink now while carrying as that is illegal even though I could probably get away with it as well. I am a law abider (well except for some occational speeding) and actually prefer soda to beer while out so I will have no issue with it (either will my wallet). If I do chose to drink, the gun stays in the car.

If the person does not care about the law then chances are they have been carrying their guns into the bars all along.

One reason I am glad for this law is that I work as a sales rep in some not so nice areas of town. I would like to be able to carry while making sales calls but I worry that I will have to take the vendor reps I travel with to lunch and you couldn't even legally carry into an Applebees do to them having a bar. The last thing I want to do is tell my co-worker...can I stash my gun in your car while we eat?

What does someone who chooses to carry but leaves it in a car or tank bag have to do with never drinking again?

If the law states you can carry in a bar but not drink, and if you are properly educated and a responsible gun owner, its YOUR responsibility to not break the law by engaging in the activies that are banned in certain circumstances.

Rae, I think what he ment was now that I can carry into a bar...will I never drink again? It is a valid question and is along the same lines as "well now you can drive so will you never have a beer if you drive yourself home?"

I look at it like this. People that obey gun laws and get carry permits respect the laws of the land. It would be very easy to carry concealed in TN without paying the money and taking the time to get tested, checked out by the FBI, finger printed etc. Most CCP owners value their rights and the laws. They would not be the ones to worry about. Its the gun owners that do not have permits that carry illegally already that would not worry about having a few beers but since they are already doing that...they should inforce the law on them.
