Description
The person selected for this position will be working closely with a group of system administrators and helpdesk technicians. The candidate selected must posses a great “team player” mentality.

Experience in: Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional.
Experience in SMS including: creating and deploying packages, creating queries and setting up software and hardware inventories.
Experience in Active Directory with hands-on experience in deploying GPO’s to a server pool.
Experience with file shares and managing file servers.
Experience in securing and hardening servers.
Cisco VPN client experience a plus.
NetIQ monitoring software a plus.
Windows 2003 Terminal Server a plus.
Blackberry server and support a plus.

System Administrator (SA) A System Administrator provides technical oversight of hardware and software systems. Normally a SA provides services on systems that affect a number of users. A few examples of these systems would include servers, switches, routers, and firewalls.

Duties may include but are not limited to activities such as implementing and maintaining system security and data recovery processes, providing technical support, utilizing automation tools for delivering applications, managing assets, monitoring performance, event notifications and automating desktop support.

In addition to the technical knowledge and skills, a SA must exhibit excellent communication skills. Often working in a team environment with clients and other IT personnel, a system administrator must coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications and schedule information.
A System Administrator’s main technology emphasis should be to:
• Maintain skill set required to do job
• Maintain an awareness of trends within the technology industry
• Install, configure, administer and optimize servers (hardware and operating systems)
• Have knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Novell Netware, Novell NDS, UNIX, and/or LINUX Network Operating Systems
• Install, configure and maintain LAN system hardware (switches, hubs, etc.)
• Install, configure network printing devices
• Design, maintain and document LAN cabling plant
• Install, configure and maintain network applications and application distribution systems
• Understand, implement and properly maintain network directory services
• Ensure system security in compliance with customer policy including virus protection
• Implement and maintain network standards and guidelines
• Monitor system utilization including data storage management, performance metrics and service levels
• Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data
• Develop and maintain an automated environment including reporting, event notifications and actions, software updates and service packs
• Integrate enterprise tools sets such as Cisco Works, Remedy, CA Unicenter Network and Systems Management, Active Directory, etc.
• Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned

• Department of Army SA/NM Level I and II Courses
• Department of Army SA/NM Level III Course
• Perl, Visual Basic, HTML and Shell scripting
• SNMP MibII

Recommended Certifications:

Leadership/Direction: Activities may be assigned without detailed explanation of steps to accomplish tasks. Requires very little aid from outside resources. On a limited basis, provides mentoring and direction to lower level administrators.

Activities: A SA 3 should have greater visibility to the entire customer enterprise and have an understanding of the logic and structure of the network. Assigned tasks are accomplished in a timely manner while avoiding many common errors and issues that traditionally are characteristics of an entry level SA. In some instances, a SA 3 will recognize required actions and respond without supervision. A level 3 administrator should be able to diagnose more complex problems such as the design & implement of a new LAN. A SA 3 may participate in special projects under the direction of Project Lead, more senior level admin, engineer or CIO. A summary of some of the duties a SA 3 might be required to accomplish are:
• Must be capable of providing system administration with minimal to no supervision
• Plan and execute configuration changes
• Install system upgrades and patches
• Conduct performance/Stress Testing
• Provide capacity planning
• Understand of TCP/IP, SNMP\UDP
• Write a variety of scripts, batch processes, unattended installs, SQL\Oracle queries, etc.
• Train users
• Attend customer requirement meetings
• Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned
• Adhere to all safety policies
