I've been to the cemetary at Normandy. It is a solomn but beautiful tribute to our fallen soldiers. Here are a couple of my pics...

To all the veterans who have served and fought for all of us as Americans, those who made it home safely and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice - Thank You!

These shots are from our visit (Kathy/HokieDNA01 & I) yesterday to the Middle Tennessee Veterans Memorial Cemetery:

I think this is a fairly recently opened cemetary, as I noticed that the vast majority of the markers were for fairly old Vets and their wives who had died recently. That was nice to see since I was expecting to see the markers reflecting many lives cut short by war, but apparently most of these soldiers made it back and lived full lives.

A couple weeks ago I was at a restaurant with my Dad and other family members. A guy from work where Dad is retired from came to talk with him. Then proceeded to introduce his son who had served in Iraq/Afghanistan. Something happened to the son where he had a prostetic leg. When they were leaving, Dad stood up from his seat to shake the son's hand (as a friendly gesture for being introduced). Then Dad went on to thank this kid for his service. In turn, this kid thanked my Dad for his service (Vietnam). It was really kind of moving to see the respect and connection the two had even though they had just met each other. It made me see my Dad in a different way. I never really appreciated or thought about what he did for me (and us) by serving his country. I got kind of choked up when I saw this or even still to tell the story.

wow. thanks Gas for the post. I never knew those existed. even when I served in Europe no one mentioned those cemetaries. I would have liked to have gone to see some while there.
