My only suggestion. 2 man tent is for one guy. Or maybe for guy + girl. Just saying. Plus you need room for your gear if it's raining.

I have a Cabella's XPG ultralight tent. it's a 3 man and packs down to about 8"x22.5" and weighs about 5lbs. I got the custom ground cloth with it as well all for $170 I believe can't remember.
the things you want IMO are: Aluminum polls... they bend before they break (fibreglass polls shatter and splinter. you can repair the aluminum polls and get through in a pinch... less so with the fibreglass polls.) also my tent came with a splint to put over where the bend happens. Aluminum stakes... they don't bend as easy because they're much thicker and stonger than the metal ones, but about .5 the wight. ground cloth... nothing sucks worse when camping than to wake up and find your tent floor soaked because all the rain last night ran under your tent. if you get too big a foot print and it is visible under the sides of the tent, that's exactly what will happen. a good foot print is the exact same size as the bottom of your tent (if not cm smaller) and provides an extra barrier to the cold and harsh ground keeping you marginally warmer and the bottom of your tent better protected Dual entry (don't have it on mine)... nice to have two entries especially when sharing the tent with someone, as they don't need to crawl around your shit or you around theirs. also it can be nice for ventilation, though most tents have a lot of screening so the benefit for that IMO is marginal at best. Clips for polls... this is enormously helpfull when setting up the tents... rather than having to feed your polls through a sleeve you just put either end of the tent poll in it's "eye" at the corner and clip the tent to the poll. my 3 man will set up in less than 2 mins. and can be done in very low light. much harder to do with the sleeves |

I have an old Coleman two/three man tent. Half the price of most of those and stupid simple. The only problem I've ever had with it is the elastic cords slowly deteriorate, and the fiberglass poles get brittle (after 10 years). Two poles, a third short one for the rain cover. One man operation. Screened back window with a rain flap (same as the door). No silly mesh to worry about if you forget the rain cover. Never had a problem with leaks (until some prick punched holes in the floor with track spikes), but it does get condensation on the inside- which is normal for any tent.
Perfect size for one person and riding gear and saddlebags. It packs to about 6" x 22" Might be this one. http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colem...d=11020&brand=

I just bought a swiss gear neisen a few weeks ago. It's a 2 man, but big enough for me and dog. Has 2 doors, 2 vestibules, though not very large. It has a full coverage rain fly, which was important to me. And it was cheap. It also clips 2 of the poles and the center support goes through a sleeve.
But the poles suck. One broke the 2nd time I set it up. Here it is on the left. And a stock photo:

I am looking at two tents now, I really want to call and find out how these pack down. I get aluminum poles with them and can get aluminum stakes and a ground mat like ebbs suggested.
http://store.eurekatent.com/products...orte_SQ_2_Tent http://store.eurekatent.com/products...ic_Pass_2_Tent I like the forte a little better because it's an old school A frame. |
