Goddammit. I was just thinking this morning how nice it is that I haven't heard anything about a Patriot Guard ride in a while. Should've known better.

Today was Nelson's funeral. Getting up in front of his family, friends, and coworkers to speak was hard... really hard. Harder still was being in the roll call. And the 21 gun salute. And seeing his little girl crying for her daddy.

Hardest of all is reconciling the fact that in the casket in front of me was the body of my friend. Rationally, I know he was in there. I haven't really accepted it.. because in my mind I can still picture him as though I just saw him yesterday, still full of life, still up to his shenanigans.

So... it wasn't goodbye. Because personally, he lives on for me in those memories. So, it was more like.. see ya later, battle buddy. Will miss you until we meet again.
