In America not many, but considering this car isn't coming here it should be compared to its competition in Europe where they pretty much all have multiple diesel options.

I'd like to see more diesels available in the US. I'd really like to have a turbodiesel, but I can't justify a 3/4 ton or larger truck to put it in. If I could get a clean turbodiesel in a sedan or smaller truck (something like a Ranger or even a half-ton) with a real manual transmission, I'd be stoked.
Jetta tdi, been here for years. YEARS

With somewhat limited availability and jacked up price.

I should have. A huge premium for the diesel takes away a lot of the allure, as does limited availability and highly questionable reliability.

I also absolutely hate FWD. There is not a single FWD vehicle in my household. RWD or AWD FTW. That's also part of the allure of a small truck- trucks put their power to the right set of wheels.

Yeah, I know. I got really excited over the diesel GM built for their half-ton trucks, only to have them kill the project before it ever went into production. Even if they had built it, it was projected to tack on something like another $6K onto the price of the truck, which is way too much damn money.

I have seen Ford Rangers overseas with small turbodiesels and manual transmissions. I know that the EPA makes diesel production in the US a bitch, but is it really just not possible to get something like that over here without a ridiculous price tag?
